Are they adding anymore guns to marines ?

sacmo2sacmo2 Join Date: 2004-07-09 Member: 29824Members
Anyone know if they plan on getting us better guns ?

im sorry but Ns1 seemed to be a bit more balanced as to fades, HMG combated them a lot better then the LMG.

I am simply curious if anyone has heard any news on better weapon releases for marines ?

Your asking for a better gun to combat fades? I don't know whether to laugh or cry.

AFAIK no new weapons.

Well we all know fades were more balanced in ns1, and the HMG made it more of a challenge for fades as well.

I think part of the problem is performance, once marines can smoothly aim aliens will start dying more.
• sacmo2sacmo2 Join Date: 2004-07-09 Member: 29824Members
I dont really notice any performance, it all seems like Ns1 just a lot more fade rape.
• MedleyMedley Join Date: 2012-11-07 Member: 167929Members
This magical weapon you speak of should be great in close-combat. Maybe something with spread fire rather than long-range pointed fire? :P
• sacmo2sacmo2 Join Date: 2004-07-09 Member: 29824Members
No the shotgun shouldnt be the only gun to kill fades, the flamethrower we all agree is crap.

however i do believe HMGs and devour for onos can be modded into the game, right ?
• MedleyMedley Join Date: 2012-11-07 Member: 167929Members
Well you see, the shotgun ISN'T the only gun to take out a Fade. A shotgun is just possibly the only way for a LONE marine to kill a good Fade, but luckily everyone understands this game is not about a bunch of Ramboes each pulling their own deal, but about attacking in groups. Seriously, in 1v1 you can have any weapon you'd like as Marine, you have to be competetive class to survive a proper Fade ambush.

Two LMG Marines can kill a Fade. A Flamer and anything together can kill a Fade. The issue you seem to be having is when you're alone, but you're not supposed to be alone. Also, hasn't the Flamethrower gotten a significant buff lately?
...And lastly I'm actually not sure if it's supported to mod entire new weapons into the game, maybe a modder can answer that.
• TimariusTimarius Join Date: 2012-11-15 Member: 171220Members
I can report that it seems like it would be pretty simple to mod in a new weapon, as far as programming it goes. However, I don't know jack about importing models and whatnot. (At least, not yet.)

And I keep hearing something about railguns....

Point here is, yes, it is likely people will mod weapons in.

No, you don't need anything better to kill Fades with than one guy with a flamethrower and one with a shotgun. And you need to be in a group, not alone.

As easy as it is for some of us to rambo in and kill 3 or 4 skulks alone, it's not the nature of the game. However, it is the nature of a Fade to smack you around for doing so.

sacmo2:

Bare minimum they need to make flamethrower an actual cone damage weapon still instead of a short ranged machine gun and add in a long ranged weapon for Marines

Rocket Launcher / Rail Gun / HMG / Plasma Caster / Onos Harpoon? I don't care. . . any are fine

Making grenade launcher contact grenades would go a long ways too since nobody banks them around a corner anyway

Still amazed that people dont understand that teh FT is not and will never be some kind of god cannon death machine. It is a support weapon. It does some DOT to lifeforms and slows down energy recovery. It clears spores!!!! Umbra too!!!! (I think). It clears infestation very fast and does good structural damage.

Flamethowers are actually decent after the recent buffs. They are the fastest way to kill a hive actually. A flamethrower with support is aboslutely deadly. Especially with jetpacks. Good fades are hard to kill but I don't see to many good fades lately.

This.
You have to see the FT as a tool. And it is very useful!

FT's can kill an onos much faster than a shotgun or lmg, unfortunately pretty hard not to die while doing so.

And that's why I love it. Onos catches fire and starts dying a lot faster? Onos runs. Onos is still taking damage, and you're chasing it, screaming at it like a mad man! Killed three Oni in a row with that.

Want to completely destroy the alien economy? Grab a Flamethrower and a Jetpack. Fly around hitting cysts with a little dash of fire. They go down all on their own as you fly off. This will kill ALL buildings, uproot whips, and be a COMPLETE pain in the ass to the alien team! And Khammanders wont even dare to use rupture on their cysts (not that it happens often anyway) because the cysts will die instantly due to losing their mature status! What's more, while they TRY to re cyst, you've already killed most of the chain!

Fade harassing your team? Not anymore! With the new and improved FLAMETHROWAHHHH (power metal scream for emphasis), you can make them cry as their energy runs completely dry! Lerks ruining your day? BURN THOSE CLOUDS AWAY! Skulks munching your Exos? Burn them away, and set the very ground on FIRE! Gorges clotting up a room? Watch the juices flow as they explode from the sheer TERROR of your FLAMETHROWAHHHH! Onos giving you the blues? SET HIM ON FIRE! He can't charge away anymore! CHASE HIM DOWN AND TEAR HIS ENTRAILS OUT, AND HANG THE HEAD IN THE BAR!

Seriously, though. The flamethrower is amazing if you use it correctly.

Flamethrowers are not even close to as good as shotgun to fight lifeforms especially oni. The adrenaline damage against oni hardly ever does anything. Also welders are just as good at killing cysts for only a small amount of price and they don't take your primary slot. I really wish they would buff flamethrowers more, maybe have the flame blind aliens that are looking at the fire.

The railgun should be available soon, although it will only be available on the exo.

Annnnnd your credibility is gone. Seriously a welder isn't even close to as good at killing cysts and buildings as a flame thrower, refer to this video. And as far as raw damage on an onos, if you do the math it's considerably more damage from a flamethrower. First off a flame thrower is flame damage not normal damage so it does 100% damage against armor unlike the shotgun which does half. Secondly the burn damage stacks up to 60 per second and that lasts an additional 60 seconds once it's stopped. So that's a minimum of 360 over 6 seconds, plus the constant 7.5 base damage which is at a very fast rate that I haven't found the exact number on yet. Suffice to say you can empty the entire tank in 8 seconds... You know what ###### it I just stopped and straight tested how long it takes to kill an onos by shooting him point blank with a shotgun and then same test with the FT. Guess what, shotgun took 36.5 seconds and FT took 22.3 seconds. End of discussion.

That does not seem possible to do in a real game. Also the flamethrowers are more expensive. If you try that you lose all of that res if you die and all of the cysts can just get replaced. I was playing as an alien commander and that exact same thing happened, the guy tried it twice and lost all of his pres. I've tested the flamethrower and it did not seem to kill skulks even close to as fast as a pistol or rifle does.

Flamethrower should be a bit more devastating in melee, but it is good if you have 2 Jetpack marines working to clear cysts depending on the size of the server.

I did this once and killed about 70+ cysts in the course of a few minutes as well as 2 skulks and 1 fade though I think the fade was running from someone else. When the com had lots of extra res I had him drop a JP and Flamethrower to save my Pres.

I wouldn't mind seeing a 40 res gun though that can do really high damage, maybe a Plasma Pulse Rifle.

It is possible, especially if the alien team are attacking a marine turtle on the other side of the map. A few matches ago I took a jetpack and flamethrower and went down the other side while just that was happening. Alone I took out a whole chain of cysts, 3 harvesters, and was working on a hive by the time 3 skulks jumped me. Just don't try to break through that horde of onos and lerks that's assaulting your base... go around and find the back way in that no one is guarding.

In combat, the best thing a flamethrower can do is dot everything. Grab a welder, jetpack, and stick with an exo. Torch anything that gets in range. Aliens do not like being on fire around an exosuit. I've often kept Onos at bay just with a few puffs of flame. Granted, they just end up accumulating more Onos and bunker busting your asses anyway, but eh.

For the record, the screaming is absolutely necessary. The flamethrower does more damage the higher the decibel level your microphone picks up (kidding)

I havn't tried with a flamethrower, but with just a welder and a jetpack I can get usually most of the cysts while the aliens are trying to siege us on the other side of the map. It only ever works once for me. As soon as I go and try it again with the same group of people I get a skulk or two coming after me.

@davil
Flamethrower may do more dps than a shotgun, which actually has really bad dps, but the flamethrower has such terrible range. Really, a group of rifleman is the fastest way to kill an onos.

Fades are much weaker in NS2 than in NS1.

You've got LMG, shotgun, flamethrower, grenade launcher, minigun(s), and weapon upgrades. How is that not enough to combat a lifeform with basic 250HP and 50 armor? You really need better weapons?

It is actually very possible and quite easy to do in game. People say "Oh well the whole alien team or a fade will find you", problem with that theory is that they don't know where you are and even if they do, a fade isn't going to be able to blink at you or do much damage with a 60% energy regen decrease. And like I showed on a HUGE map like that one it didn't even take me 2 minutes to get the entire map. It literally took one click to kill each cyst i was hitting. Yea it's 35 res total for an FT and JP but it's supposed to be better than 5 res welder.

This was just on a test server I made and it doesn't matter what side of it i'm shooting because bone shield doesn't exist. For reference though I shot both on the broadside and all I did was hold the button down until the weapon was empty then let it reload and go again. With carapace the onos would take even longer to kill with the shotgun because that's more half damage being done. The flamethrower with level 2 weapons will actually kill an onos in 1 and 1/4 tank level 0 took 1 and 1/2.

Granted several lmgs will kill it as fast as an FT however, it's 500 damage over 5 seconds and again that damage is halved vs the armor. This is actually less than the shotgun which can do 850 damage in 5 seconds. What really works best is an FT burning the onos while someone hits it with the lmg or shotgun. Then it can't charge away and you can kill it pretty rapidly.
