Forget Jetpacks I'd take a hoverboard, imagine riding around the map on a hoverboard, strafing would let you lean into a turn, crouching for speed, banking up off of walls...

I totally think weeks and weeks of programming, concepting and designing should be used to create random gimmicks despite more pressing issues being present.

It sounds like it. While I'm all for a non-flapping, hovaring board, I feel it would be OP unless aliens got something to compensate. Perhaps a new evolution for the alien, similar to the scorpion of earth, which also has the ability to hovar without flapping, would be in order?

Somebody once suggested including a "hover" function in jetpacks that let you hover just above the ground for no (or less) energy than regular jetpacking. I think that would be a better idea than an actual hoverboard, though it sounds like it would be pretty OP.
Amusing idea, maybe some new alien class could someday make use of a hovering mechanic. But marines have enough movement advantages as is.
I'd rather see marines have their legs amputated and having to fight in wheelchairs to balance things out. lol
