can't see any server

Hi,
My friend can't see any ns server. He tried anything that was stickied : redownload & install ns, put the ping limit low on steam, delete appdata ns folder.
When he try to join us via steam he gets : "Couldn't establish a connection with the server"
When he try to host a local serv he gets : "Authentication failed"
I tried to launch the game with his steam account, it worked fine.
His internet is a typical all-in-kit internet box (wifi)
Have anyone experienced this ?

The appdata/ns logfile is empty from usefull information.
Maybe the problem is related to ports. What ports exactly are used by NS ?
Does he have a firewall and antivirus application running that might interfere?
It's the standard "router" a box not a custom one.
No firewall and antiviri active
Update : TCP Ports = 27000 and 27100
UDP Ports = 1200 and 27000-27100
He opened this ports but it still doesn't work.
So we'll never know what caused the problem >< but it wasn't hardware related.
