Ping Spikes?

About the past few days I have been having an issue with my in game ping going from approx. 50 and jumping to approx. 200-500 and back down to 50 again. The cycle continues throughout the game. It is the same in every server I go into. I have tried resetting my modem, I restarted my router, I uninstalled and reinstalled NS2, I checked my connection, but it is still continuing to spike. It has only been happening the past few days also, before the 22nd (November) I wasnt having the issue. Is there anything I can do to remedy this?

Specs:
Asus G60
Intel i5 M430 2.27 ghz
Nvidia GeForce GTS 360M
Windows 7 64

I went to speedtest.net
D/L: 36.06 mb/s
U/L: 4.53 mb/s

Open a command prompt and enter "ping -t unknownworlds.com" or use a different destination, preferably something stable in the same country as the game server or the server itself.

Does the ping in the command prompt fluctuate as well? Start the game and play until your problem occurs. Does it fluctuate now?

If both the in-game ping and the ICMP ping behaves similarly it's very likely a network problem. Otherwise you're looking at something else.

Might be a heating issue on a system like that. When NS2's response is delayed it raises its ping accordingly; if you alt-tab out you can clearly observe your ping quickly skyrocketing to 999.

I am playing through a wired connection and the wireless is turned off. I have noticed in the Steam forums and some other players are having similar problems. Is this related to the recent update?
