Anyone know of a place I can get this?

<div class="IPBDescription">decent game reviews in light of Metacritic being ####</div>I've been thinking a lot about game reviews recently. Certainly I grab some games, and there's just some certain aspect that really irritates me and prevents me from really enjoying the game... most often these games are just not really in a genre I love. However, for the most part I'm a pretty patient person and I've found a lot of different games tickle me in their own way.

Basically, I'm looking for a reviewer that takes their time and does their due diligence to actually find the sweet spots of any given game they're reviewing. I'd like someone who looks into the modding scene for a game and clues me into the extended value of the game I'm buying, and someone that ultimately, rather than telling me what not to buy so I can skip from one mediocre experience to another not really finding the real gold at the heart of any given game, a reviewer that can tell me how to get the best mileage out of any given game experience.

Does anyone know of anything like that existing in gaming right now?

If that's too much to ask, what reviewers do you trust most? I feel like the reviewing landscape in gaming is really barren. I like watching Total Biscuits videos, but honestly, I just find him funny, his opinions on games in WTFis? and the other stuff he gives his opinions on are not usually worth making purchases based on. Yatzee is even worse, his videos are all comedy no substance. I watch them all, but I heartily disagree with most of the knits he picks.

Everywhere on the internet I just read and hear things about gaming journalism being corrupt and of poor quality. I personally really dig strategy games and I listen to a podcast that does review shows about them(hopefully). Also I find watching a game on a livestream(twitch.tv) pretty good to see if I could like a game.

Pretty much no games have modding scenes these days and even for the ones that have mod tools you can't magically predict the future to find out whether people are going to make lots of awesome mods for the game. What you are asking is literally impossible for an honest reviewer who doesn't want to make stuff up. Aside from that, though, Rock Paper Shotgun is the best source for reviews.

Not just strictly a review site, they focus quite a bit on other content, but when they do a review it's usually decent.
