    Those are called Sentries.

Yes, but the issue is that that'd be overpowered. Essentially as far as I understood, you ask for moving sentries that the commander can order around, but THAT would be like auto-aiming Marines. In fact I kind of doubt that the Marines would be needed much at all since MACs can build and repair.
Actually, why not make Marines an upgrade? When you get the third Command Center, people can join Marines and play :P

Again we hit at a huge problem with marines right now.

We have no viable base defense.

Sentries are completely underpowered and can barely aim.

Seeing as we only get 3 per room, and they are vulnerable to BOTH their battery and the Power Node, they are pathetically weak.

I don't like the idea of "Robot Guards" but I think he is expressing a common frustration with marines in that they have nothing to help them defend with.
In a small game marines cannot be everywhere, and they are pretty much forced to leave important rooms totally unprotected on a regular bases. This is just asinine.

Sentries are fine. They have a decent combined HP, and yes you have to take that combined because as you finish one, the other two still shoot at you. Unless you're a Lerk or Gorge, you'll take damage for however long it takes you to approach and kill a Sentry, because well-placed Sentries aren't easy to sneak up on from behind, but instead you'll have to charge past them.

ACTUALLY the battery is the exact reason why they're not vulnerable by the Powernode. And again, if the commander is smart, then there's at least one sentry covering the battery, which makes it a lot harder to get.

Actually, thanks to Phase Gates, marines have far more potential to be everywhere than aliens, if they do it right. Because as opposed to PG-Marines, Aliens have to run wherever they wish to get to, which even with vents and celerity is slower than instant teleport.

By the sound of it, you two just haven't found a really good comm yet.
