Can (May you!) play in one server while you wait to join another?

I see that you can open up the server list while connected to a server and start the queue, but when you hit escape to go back to playing it seems to cancel it and forces you to refresh the whole list again

Is this the case or does it continue to try my connection?

    I think when you press escape to go back to the game, it cancels the joining wait list.

    You technically can do this if you are playing in one server but your friend is in another.

    On steam friends select your friend and click "join game". If his server is full you can use steam's auto-join feature to join when a slot is available.

    But I don't think there's a way (yet) to do this solely through NS2's server browser itself.
