Skulks damage?

I am playing a skulk and was biting this AFK guy. He wasn't moving. Or shooting. I bit him 5 times, he didn't die.
Mind you the game just started maybe 3 minutes in. Another marine just pop shoot me killed me in 1 second. What took 3 seconds of biting not to get a kill.

Now I play marine, and am just walking around. Alien kills me in 2 bites. What I couldn't accomplish in 5.
So is there some sort of areas I am not aware of you need to bite?

Being killed in two bites early game is the result of:
1 parasite+2 bites, which can kill a marine as the parasite does just enough damage to make this possible :)
