i just purchased the game and would like to play it, but its not possible because when i left click on a server to join it, the sever just suddenly disappears. why is that so and is there a solution?
Could you please attach or post the contents of the NS2 "log.txt" file, this contains useful error messages for the UWE devs: To get to the file, press windows key + R, fill in "%appdata%\Natural Selection 2", hit enter. You can either copy paste it to the forums or post it into a website such as http://www.pastebin.com and post the link here on the forums.
A temporary workaround: use below websites or tool to browse and connect to servers http://hypernovadesign.co.uk/nanogrid/ http://www.play4dead.com/ns2/ http://ns2stats.org/server/index http://ns2servers.devicenull.org/index.php - only shows IP addresses, to manually connect, open the console with ~ and type "connect 123.123.123.123" and hit enter to connect Camron's server browser tool
I don't think this is a bug, I've had this happen to me many of times. It seems to follow the servers that are full, display one under full (which are still full), or servers that may have had people join and is now full since your refresh.
Just filter empty and full servers then sort by ping and drill down till you find a server with at least 2 open slots.
Seems to be a good short workaround that the devs may have squeezed in there so that your not trying to join the server, get to the loading screens, and then get kicked back out to the main menu just because of a full server. Don't quote me on it ... but seems to be the answer from my observation.
Same problem here. Only started to notice this yesterday. I posted elsewhere but maybe better add here my issue. Here is the link to the Log of my most recent activity as requested:

This is a known bug that hasnt been reported yet because we cant reproduce it. I saw it once then never again. Is it consistent for you? I.e. Every single time? Please enable net_log 3 and record a demo using "record" while attempting to join, then upload both the demo and the log.txt found in your %appdata%/natural selection 2/ folder to somewhere on the internet (pastebin.com etc) and then link it here please. The demo will record any engine oddities to include some network stuff, and the net_log will capture anything network related, just in case. Thanks
That user brought up a way to reproduce it. Your filters will make it dissapear when you click it, because when u click it the server will refresh.. So say for instance you have "hide full" but when you click it, it refreshes, is now full, so it hides.
Just before you posted the above I think I realized why it was happening to me. Similar reason probably.
Thing is I had only one filter active in my list: Ping. And I had it quite low at 50 or so, just because I can see so many games anyways that I got greedy in performance.
As you say, whenever you select one server in the list its info gets updated, and if the ping was slightly below 50 originally and for some reason has moved up a little over 50 then it will disappear. Since pings below 50 seem to be in the range of 35-50 and are quite unstable it would tend to happen (at least to me) a lot.
I have now expanded the ping filter to 100 and the problem has almost comlpetely disapeared. While with a 50 ping filter 8 out of 10 games I clicked would vanish from the list, now it is just the odd game here or there that does
Possible fix for this maybe would be to make the filter functions only filter on first scroll or on refresh/update click but not on specific server selection /click? I.e. a snapshot scroll and not a dynamic table.
What needs to be understood is that when you click on a server name, the client will automatically update that one server in the server list. However, let's say you have the filter full servers box checked. Then you refresh your server list. What can happen is that the server you wanted to go on might be 17/18, but while the server list is updating someone else joins so it is 18/18. Now since this happened after your server list was generated, your client doesn't know about it yet. However, when you click on the server in the list it instantly updates, and if it is still 18/18 it will vanish since you had the filter full servers box checked.
Try this test to see if you can get it to reproduce. Uncheck ALL of the 'filter' boxes, and set performance to 0 and ping to 600. (the min/max for those)
Then update the server list and watch the upper right corner of your screen for the number displayed. Make sure to WAIT until that number stops increasing. Once that happens, then sort the list as you like and see if you get any 'vanishing servers'.
The issue here is that since the server gets updated any time you click on it, it can cause filter/sort options to make it seem like it has vanished.
