Suicide Is A Good Idea...

i've noticed that people have this feeling that they should NEVER die.
as an LMG marine, you cost 1 RP per spawn. compare that to the two RP's per medpack.
everytime i see an LMG marine in spawn, w/o orders, crying for a medpack, i want to scream. if i am in the same situation, i simply type kill in console. compared to the 2 or even 4 RP's that would be spent getting you healthy again, you might as well just die.
i once asked the commander if he'd be willing to have me suicide, and he just gave me a funny look (virtually i guess). as long as you aren't trying to hold a strategically important position, i see no need to waste the team and yourself time and money.
am i crazy?
incidentally, i usually don't build an armory early on. LMG marines are cheap, and i sincerely doubt that anyone would last all that many attacks. just kill yourself if close to base, otherwise, sure, drop ammo.

- You're in your spawn
- You have less than 15 health
- You have no armor/jetpack
- You have no weapons - including mines and/or a welder
On the other hand, it's never a bad idea to become a kamikaze scout and just see what your opponent is up to. It's not like you have a kill/death ratio you have to worry about.
i always thought you were free. then someone complained that i was wasting resources by charging blindly at a stupid ono over and over....
You can do this anytime you are not wearing heavy armor or jetpack, as long as you die in your base and noone else is dead at the same time - that allows you enough time to pickup your gun/welder again.
I also consided suicide if I have a parasite because there is nothing worse than having the enemy know where you are.
I will hide in a corner, type kill, respawn and pick up all my gear including welders and primary weapons (it ALL gets dropped on the floor). It's much cheaper than me running out, dying to far away for me to run out and get my guns back, and having to get more...
As for getting my guns back, if I can I try at all cost to get expensive items back to base. Even if it kills me 2 or 3 times, moving the gun through swarms of fades, it is still cheaper than buying a new one...
yes it's less expensive for your team, but I think it will never be admit in tournament mode...
SK_Tyger, who don't like this suicide idea
However, you can always drop your guns in base and go recon some Hive locations. ^^
The same thing pisses me off about some Skulk players. They think a skulk should be stealthy and go 10-0 by surprising marines and picking them off 1 by 1. I think a skulk should be the unit that charges the Turret Factory, gets 5 or 6 bites off, and dies. I end up with a kill ratio of 3-20, but I've cleared out entire Hive lockdowns, while they have 10-0 but havent' done anything important.
There are actually some fairly good skulk players who can kill Marines and ream Turret Factories without dying. Ratio is not completely worthless and though its fun to rack up the kills, keep in mind this is a teamplay mod (think Voltron, only smaller and no transforming and..er..). No one likes dying, but I'll take one for the team if they need a Turret Factory down, after all who doesn't like to eat olive green metal? <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

Yeah, but a skulk who gets 10-0 by hiding in corners, avoiding direct combat, and running away to heal as soon as he's taken 10 points of damage is a useless skulk.
Yes there are good players who can strafe around a turret fac with 6 turrets defending, and kill it in a single go as a Skulk, but those are rare. Three mediocre skulks doing repeated suicide attacks on that turret factory are much more effective than one Ubergodly skulk doing the same thing. It pisses me off to see skulk players refuse to attack turret factories because of their precious kill ratio.
