I was regarding it as a bug, not a balance change. Vortex used to get created regardless of whether or not anything was in range, so that if a marine happened to walk in they'd be affected. New Vortex doesn't do that. Given Vortex is not regarded as OP or breaking the game, I can't imagine that was an intentional nerf, but rather a bug.

As to 'missed attacks', I think it makes perfect sense that 'attacks' which create a persistent area effect in the game work whether or not any targets are in the area at the time. I assume you wouldn't suggest changing Spores to behave that if there aren't any marines in the AOE initially you get deducted the energy but no gas comes out.

    * Made hydras "catalyzable"? (i don't know what this means)<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

Nutrient Mist used to be named "catalyze" and it worked exactly like the sc2 Chrono Boost where it only worked on one target.

So, in 229 the khamm can mist hydras to make them mature faster. Nice little addition.

the crag healing change is a big mistake. please clamp the value lower (40ish sounds good, with 60 on overheal mode). an onos will be unkillable if he sits by 3 crags and has a gorge healing him.

The console no longer handles extended characters?

åäöÅÄÖ¤éèêëã etc and probably many more

Typing into the console will show them up, but when they are entered they are broken, and in-game messages with these characters do not show up properly in the console. It worked in 228.

Pretty sure half of your fatal error reports come from me. Hope this patch addresses some crashing issues.

Just finished a game as marines. There were 3 crags around 2 whips and a gorge. 4 marines with lvl 3 lmg could not kill it. Couldn't kill the gorges either, they just healed too quickly.

server browser does not appear to list any servers.
either it's taking significantly longer to update, or I need to alt-tab out and back in to get the lsit to appear.

Or there are only a few 229 servers running and they're full, and you have filtered out full servers.

I killed myself with a flamethrower. I didn't know that was possible.

Oh also I don't know if this is a bug, but on the server browser it said my ping to the server was 120, but when I got it in it was more like 230.

no, it takes far longer for the list to show up. First thing I did was disable filtering.

I don't know if valve would make you pay for it but like somone said here you should go with a ns 2 beta like they do for Counter-Strike Source
    ex:
    Natural-Selection 2
    Natural-Selection 2 Beta
This way we could try a new beta and switch back to normal with no downloading delay.
You could add on the beta screen while playing (under build) a red message saying that this is a beta build.

Tried to test but some ######heads joined the server and started griefing. Then claimed to be a software developer and that the only way to test was by playing normally...I hope his company goes bankrupt because they obviously don't have a clue that testing individual systems is just as important as testing the finished product.

Not likely. The purpose of this beta is to search for major, build breaking issues, not test individual changes.

Please do not discuss balance issues in this thread. The purpose of the beta build is to test for major, game breaking issues, not test balance. We will look through this thread before publicly activating B229, and make sure there are not game-breaking problems.

You can update your server by adding the beta command to the end of your steamcmd line, e.g. 'app_update 4940 -beta beta'

If you are running servers, we request that you only update a small proportion of them to the B229 beta, as we expect the number of users opting in to be low.<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
How do we test for bugs that may have been introduced without having any idea what changes have been made?

Man, this patch sounds horrible. If what everyone's reporting is true, I'm not looking forward to glitched vortex, unkillable cragspam, and worse blink than it is now (I didn't think it was possible but apparently it is?).

Updated to 229. Still get can't load shaders. Shaders not found. Black screen plague.

[ ] You know what a beta test is for and can be trusted with pointing out improvements and/or constructive criticism.

[x] You have no clue (and like to be a pain in the ass).

think exos are getting stuck partway down the bottomless pits, other guy left before I could try and reproduce the bug.

It's about as much of a beta as what we're playing now. They would've released it today without a beta; we can consider ourselves lucky that they actually decided to do this TBH.

Also, the crag changes sound kinda final (for the patch anyway). No balance discussion and all that.

Not sure if posted before but:

BUG: When damaging yourself with a flamethrower, you show up on alien's hive sight (you get the orange outline around you).

    EDIT:

BUG: If a marine attacks his team member, that team member will also show up on hive sight. Doesn't matter which weapon, seems to work with all of them. Haven't tested with exos, but I assume it works for them too. EDIT2: Tested, works the same on exos

Perhaps a silly question, how should server owners upgrade to 229 Beta?

Thanks to ukgamer on #naturalselection IRC:
    Run the app_update like below:
    app_update 4940 -beta beta
  • drilltoothdrilltooth Join Date: 2012-11-12 Member: 170096Members
also, seems dropped weapons are sticking around a lot longer.
not sure if bug or change.

    ^ Oh F no. Please tell me that's a bug xD .
  • NoxZANoxZA Join Date: 2012-09-18 Member: 159814Members
Don't know. They stick around forever when off of infestation (at least in our play testing they did). On infestation they take a while to disappear. Don't know if it's for balance or a bug.

Thanks for the testing session, guys.
I have to mention the comm keys again:
    <img src="http://i.imgur.com/12FEe.png" border="0" class="linked-image" />
It would make NS2 much more accessible and convenient for your German, French, Canadian and all the other players that don't use QWERTY keyboard layouts.

Just look at how confusing the hotkeys must be to a French commander:

Dunno if this was already posted on this topic, or if this is even a bug, but biting (for exemple) an egg/hive/cyst as a skulk on explore mode makes that electric hit sound that comes out when a power node is being chomped.

^Because the qwerty layout is specifically for English, it just types better. Azerty or qwertz are used for another language and must type easier for that. Words are spelled differently so the changed layout helps to type easier/better/faster.
