Out of video memory

Hi, I seem to be having trouble playing at all. Connection is fine, however, when I join a game the video is frozen and I get a lot of "out of video memory" errors.
I've tried all the fixes requiring me to delete and re-download folders through steam.
My graphics drivers are fairly recent (306.23), the newest ones are just for windows 8 compatibility, so I don't know if they are worth downloading
My system is Vista, AMD phenmon II x4 810 (2.6Ghz), GTX 9800+, 3GB ram ... fairly old

If it is ~512Mb I'd advice running it on low and try with texture streaming on or off (on reduces current video memory usage, but can introduce stuttering on older systems)
