Still having problems with connecting to servers

There are two recurring issues here, and I'm not sure if it is a global problem or just me. First is that the server list will often times not display any servers at all, even with no filters and "unlimited" as the ping filter. Second, and perhaps more importantly, is that there are persistent problems connecting to servers. I get the "unable to establish connection with server" error message about 75% of the time during my attempts. I typically choose servers that have one or two slots free, so I can get into an active game, rather than try and seed an empty one. Sometimes I think it helps if I close NS2 and restart it, but maybe that's a placebo and I'm not really doing anything to affect it.

Are you sure your router is fine? I recognized that NS2 has huge problems with connection interruptions. I once restarted my router while in-game and didn't find any servers after that, even with multiple steam restarts.
Maybe your router has some small timeouts in between?

Sounds like UDP flooding. Thompson router?

Had this problem too. Try this:

Go into your steam main page/steam/settings/downloads + cloud/game server browser: max pings per minute.

If the number is high, say 3000, then try lowering that to 1000 or less. For me 500 works the best so just experiment.

That should help populate servers in the browser better. The connection problem is known by UW and they are looking into it as it was mentioned in a Q&A with Hugh.

Any chance of this being stickied? Seen a few similar threads and the above helps.

Yeah, mine was set to 3000. I've moved it down to 1500 for now, and will give that a go. I can connect to some servers without a problem, and once I'm in there are no other issues. It's just getting a decent list to show, and then the problem with connecting to certain ones that have only a few slots open. It seems most of the official servers have problems.
