"Kicked" while trying to connect

My current hang-up in playing this game is when I try to join a server (especially after a patch) it takes an abnormally long time to load. I have a pretty good computer and any other game I own loads within a few seconds. I assume the long load times have to do with unpacking patch and/or updated map files, but it gets to be pretty annoying when I get stuck in a loop of getting kicked for being AFK when on my screen I'm not even in the game and it just says "precaching". Then I have to find another server and start the whole process over again. I'm sure it's mostly having to do with the timers servers have on AFK-kickers, but it would be nice to have some sort of immunity while connecting.
