NS2 suddenly won't start on my laptop.
From the log.txt:
Date: 11/07/12
Time: 16:12:00
--------------------------------------------------------------
Build 228
Steam initialized
Render Device: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 675M (9.18.13.697)
Error: IDirect3DDevice9::Reset to 1920x1080 failed (An invalid parameter was passed to the returning function)
Error: Attempted to load remote options from a file that does not exist.
Only theory I have about this, is I sometimes plug ma 2048 x 1154 external monitor into my laptop and play on that. That means setting it as my main display. When I'm done, the game is shut down and I unplug the cable and let windows reset the main display. Never had any problems before but that's the only thing I can think of that I imagine might possibly have caused the problem.
I've already tried validating the game cache and deleting and letting steam redownload it.

A brief black screen, and game doesn't start.
I had attached a DisplayLink (nexxtech actually, which I think is just rebranded displaylink) usb video adapter to my laptop. It installed it's display drivers and once I had removed them, NS2 would start again.
Incidentally, getting that usb adapter to work under linux was such a pain in the ass, I ended up just returning it. Glad I did, or I might never have figured out why NS2 wouldn't run on my laptop.
