A couple questions before I buy

I'm a little bit of a stat junkie, and without any kind of stat tracking I tend to get bored of games fairly quickly..like Counter Strike for example. I think it's entertaining for short periods of time, but after awhile I become bored of the same repetitive, meaningless gameplay.

1) Does Natural Selection 2 offer any kind of stat tracking? Whether it's average kills, deaths per game, wins, losses, etc?

2) Is there any kind of matchmaking? Or can players come and go as they please, joining whichever team they want like Counter Strike...or is it more like a MOBA like Dota/LoL where when you join a game you're assigned to a team and expected to finish the game out?

3) If a player heavily prefers either playing the Commander RTS role instead of playing FPS, is there any way to ensure or increase your chances of getting to play as the role you prefer? Or is it first come first serve? Do petty arguments tend to break out over who gets to play what, or is the community mature enough to not troll other players?

    1) There is no stat tracking.
    2) Match making is quick join, you enter servers as you please
    3) It's first come first serve for commander, but there are no fights over commander because most people don't command. It's the opposite; often a team needs someone to comm, but nobody wants to.

The beauty of this game is when both teams have team work. That is when it is most fun.

    1) There is a stat tracking mod that some servers have, but from what I've it's mainly those that are gearing more for competitive play that use it. The mod is NS2Stats.. and even has a website to track things at http://www.ns2stats.org

    2) The in game matchmaking is like any other FPS, join a server and leave as you please. There is at least one group I know that runs what are called Gathers. cuGathers are setup to run like a competitive match. Once twelve people have said they want to join, the website initiates a voting procedure for picking team captains, which server, and which map. Captains then pick players. It ends up being a 6v6 game (one comm for each naturally), and after the first round, the teams switch sides, taking Aliens if they previously played Marines. Only site I know of that runs them is http://www.ensl.org You are expected to show up and play through one map (one map being a round as marines and a round as aliens on that map). Note that many of the group is from europe and often will seek to play on the european servers, but there are a number of people from US and other regions. Just be prepared to possibly be playing with a disturbing ping. There are some servers in other regions that they host the gathers on too though, so don't fret too much. As a note, I'm new to the ensl gathers and such, so this is only info based on my experience with it. I can say that I've been having more fun with them than in regular pubs.

    3) As was said before, most people seem to not want to Command. It is first come first serve, but it's not exactly hard to get a chance to do it if you want.

Basically the first two features are there as third party setups. They work fairly well. UWE may add the first later, but I'd be surprised if they added an actual matching service.. then again, they might.. :)

There is a reason many of the gather players are Europeans.... ENSL stands for European Natural Selection League :P

If you are N/A, playing in your evening will often find a lot of N/A players online and N/A servers to play on. While the euro's are still up though, teh gathers tend to be dominated by us :)
