<div class="IPBDescription">Performance drop as the server list populates.</div>Essentially, the issue that I have is crippling my system when I go to populate the server list. It starts out fine, hovering around 80ish FPS, and then as the list populates further down it will actually drop to single digits. Keep in mind my system runs on average 50-80ish FPS whilst actually playing. When it comes to my settings, all options are on/at their highest setting besides texture streaming and vsync which are turned off. I am also running at 1920x1080 on a 60hrz monitor. Also loading off of a SSD.
Addition: When using filters to shorten the list, I don't have near the framerate issues, but it is still apparent that as more fill in my framerates still drop some. Usually down to around 40ish.
Here's my specs:

The number is probably too high, try setting it to between 250 and 1000 and that should fix your problem!

That didn't help it really. I dropped it from 5k to 1k and while it helped some at first, as the list continued to populate and get longer, my system tanked. I don't think it has anything to do with how much pinging it's doing. I think the performance issue is directly tied to the length of the server list. Thanks for the attempted help though. Also, I did drop it even lower (to 250) and I still had the same problem as the list populated. The only real difference was the speed at which the list populated.
If you're having FPS problems in the game itself, try the following in the graphics options:
- Turn Texture Streaming on (almost always smoother than off)
- Lower the game resolution to 1280x720 (makes a big difference in speed, and with anti aliasing on it should still look great)
- Try setting Wait for Vertical Sync to triple buffered, or off (sometimes tb is smoother than off, depending on your system)
- Turn Ambient Occlusion to medium, or off if medium isn't enough. (makes a big difference)
- If those two don't help enough, turn Texture Quality to medium. (also makes a noticeable difference in FPS)
Then open the server browser and thrash your fps as much as you can, i.e. no filters.
Then exit ns2 and go to your %appdata%/natural selection 2/ folder and find the latest file with the plog extension. should say something like client (date).plog
upload it somewhere on the internet then post the link here.
This wont fix your problem right away, but it will tell the devs why this is happening for you

Should probably read my post more clearly. The issue isn't with the in-game performance. The issue is with the performance at the server browser. ;)
Once I get in-game, my performance goes back to normal with the aforementioned settings that I listed in my original post.

Once tomorrow rolls around I'll be sure to do this.
For me the performance stays tanked so long as I keep the server browser list up. As soon as I leave it the problem stops.
