I don't care what you put in your body until you get behind the wheel of a car and kill my family... So "Yay Democracy" we have one more method to devolve into a brainless waist of oxygen.

Process this for a second, if our economy continues on its current path and we start to overtax the "Wealthy" then there is a very real chance that in the next 4 years a start-up like UWE would not succeed because they will not be able to remain fiscally solvent. You might be thinking that Charlie and the gang aren't "The Rich" that we keep talking about. However, you are sorrily mistaken. UWE breached the magical $250k mark and will be hammered with tax and regulation because they obviously need to give back "Their Fair Share".

    Not bitter. Just sad.

I really want to see my country return to its former prosperous self. Now I fear I never will.

I was quite impressed how many votes went in their favour for ###### marriage and pot use.

    Really? You speak for everyone?

I express an OPINION about my concern and I am now some sort of pariah? It amazes me how intolerant the "tolerant" are.

Yay, we aren't QUITE as backwards as the rest of the developed world!

Seriously though, I have taken it for granted that ###### marriage will be legalized through out the US within the near future, and I'm happy about this.

However, the legalization of weed for recreational use? I seriously am shocked that went through, it's not even on my radar of things I expect to happen any time soon. Still, happy that we are possibly on our way to decriminalizing it.

Pretty sure taxing the wealthy doesn't mean taxing companies more? Also don't exactly see how higher company tax rates cause companies to become fiscally insolvent when this is coming out of profits. All it does is slow growth.

I'm not american though so i probably missed something.

How does this work with conflicts between state and federal law? :o

On a more serious note. Colorado's Amendment 64 removes the fiscal drain that enforcing prohibition creates while creating a new excise type tax on marijuana putting the first $40 million in tax revenue raised per year into education. Any tax revenue over that goes toward the state, helping to pay for existing programs and reducing the need to cut programs to reduce spending.

It's a market that has existed for a long time, it has gone untaxed, and unregulated, now it's going to have both taxation and regulation. It allows adults to make decisions about their own body's, take responsibility for said decisions, and face the consequences if something happens under the influence. Colorado already has a Marijuana DUI law by the way.

And also, I'm sorry, where did taxation of the rich become the topic of discussion in this thread about Local Colorado issues that affects people in Florida nil?

    Also, congrats Washington state too.

    :edit:

Under US Federal law (Controlled Substances Act), Marijuana is a schedule 1 substance.

QUOTE

Schedule I substances are those that have the following findings:

The drug or other substance has a high potential for abuse.

The drug or other substance has no currently accepted medical use in treatment in the United States.

There is a lack of accepted safety for use of the drug or other substance under medical supervision

Should be noted that cocaine, heroin and many amphetamines are Schedule 2, aka "less harmful"

We've had medical marijuana in Colorado for a while too.

    We don't know yet.

Marijuana is a schedule I narcotic (federal designation). However, the Obama administration directed Federal courts to not prosecute for marijuana possession in states where the offender would not be breaking a state law in terms of medicinal usage. What they will say about Colorado and Washington's steps to decriminalize, I dono.

You should write a big post about your political gripes in the discussion forum.

So how's the job situation in Colorado? It was on the top of my list of places to possibly move to after grad school.
After we get ###### (can we get this filter removed?) marriage through and decrim pot, whats next? Hallucinogens? Legal mushrooms would make the world a better place from my experience.

It's about to begin a whole new industry that can't be done elsewhere, so who knows. Increased production for both consumption and industrial hemp, biofules being a good example of what can be done with industrial hemp. Not to mention the retail outlets to sell the product, the farms to grow it.

    Congrats!

Apparently the new dutch government will also allow every city to decide if they want to keep selling weed to foreigners.
