NS2 actually disables my internet connection after server connection issues for a few minutes

Hey guys, having sort of a weird issue here.

First off, I'm having the same "empty server browser" problem that's been so widely reported. Often times the server browser shows up completely empty, and other times it's nearly impossible to connect. Except mine runs a little deeper.

When I first successfully get a list of servers, if I fail to connect around 2 or 3 times (which always happens due to "this server is full" even with 1 slot open and "could not establish a connection"), the server browser is suddenly empty when I return - and my <b>internet is disabled for around 3 - 5 minutes.</b>

This is extremely strange to me and I've never seen it happen with any other game. It's not like my internet literally disables, but I can't access any web pages or stream any internet related content. It's all as if I went and unplugged my modem. Steam messages don't send, etc. I can't reboot NS2 as the server browser will assuredly be empty during this time.

So... WTF's going on here guys?

<b>mellowtooth</b>, in the Steam settings try to lower the Server request list to 500.

What he said. Steam server refreshes can overload your router. Lower the max server pings in Steam -> settings -> downloads so that server refreshes are slower.
