Sometimes I can get the server list to fill up, most of the time I can't. Why is this?

    ^^^

I Just registered to forums to ask about this also. First refresh works, everything after is empty.

I go through a netgear regular router, no firewalls, no windows defender.

    You guys tried:
    In
    <drive>\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\<userid>\4920\remote\options.xml,
    make sure
    <filter_gamemode>asdfasd</filter_gamemode> is <filter_gamemode></filter_gamemode>.

    ?
Or just ensure that the filters in the browser dont have some character in them like a sneaky ` or something?
Lower the performance filter requirements to like 50% and ensure that the ping filter is lenient.
In other words, have you ensured that your filters arent being too strict?

you can use <a href="http://hypernovadesign.co.uk/nanogrid/" target="_blank">nano grid</a> in the meantime to find servers and connect.

I checked my options.xml and it seems like it's OK

    <filter_gamemode></filter_gamemode>

I had forgotten about the web server browsers! I've added them to my known issues and fixes topic:

Workaround: use below websites to browse and connect to servers
    <a href="http://hypernovadesign.co.uk/nanogrid/" target="_blank">http://hypernovadesign.co.uk/nanogrid/</a>
    <a href="http://www.play4dead.com/ns2/" target="_blank">http://www.play4dead.com/ns2/</a>
    <a href="http://ns2stats.org/server/index" target="_blank">http://ns2stats.org/server/index</a>
<a href="http://ns2servers.devicenull.org/index.php" target="_blank">http://ns2servers.devicenull.org/index.php</a> - only shows IP addresses, to manually connect, open the console with ~ and type "connect 123.123.123.123" and hit enter to connect

Is NS2 allowed by your firewall?
