Still getting checkerboard problems

Post patch 228, I am still getting the same problems I had in the launch version (227); problems I did not have prior to that. In other words I wasn't experiencing any problems until the launch version.
I load up the game fine, but after about 30 minutes - 1 hour of gameplay I will start seeing checkerboard patterns instead of textures on everything, and eventually my entire screen is a checkerboard.
Turning up the console I will get flooded with the error that says "Couldn't load xxxx (invalid format)"
Here are my system specs:
Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 @ 3.00 GHz
3Gigs RAM
NVidia GeForce GTX260
Windows XP SP3
I've tried re-installing the DirectX distribution in the NS2 folders, and verifying game cache thru steam. Nothing's solved the problem yet.
In addition I'm getting random crash to desktops too.
I've wondered if it was a problem on my end but I honestly did not have any of these issues till the launch version.

(Press Win+R and paste that)
Then run NS2 again.
