Hard disk hang?

I've had the same problem all through beta; my fps is a peachy 40-60 consistently, except now and then I get very long (1-7 second) render freezes. It's not the usual poor framerate, but rather a complete cessation of new frames for a few seconds, and it seems to coincide with hard disk activity judging from my HD indicator LED and also from the circumstances when it occurs... generally, the first time I enter a new area of a map or when I enter a very busy area with lots of structures and characters; times I would expect some texture loading to possibly be going on (though it seems to occur with the Texture Streaming setting either on or off).
It never occurs when I'm not actively navigating the map or loading in for the first time.
My hard disks are, in point of fact, pitifully old, but they are also striped together in RAID 0 to form my gaming volume so their effective speed should be acceptable; it hasn't generally been a problem in anything else.
I've lost a lot of Fade evolutions calmly sitting in place and accepting the bullets civilly due to this. I'm a little worried the marines are going to start calling me The Buddhist Monster.

I updated all network, chipset, and video drivers to no avail. My HDD is a fairly new 1TB 7200rpm 32mb and I have no issues in other games. (ie BF3, borderlands 2, firefall, planetside 2, everything maxed)
Win 7 x64
i7 2600k 3.4ghz @ 4.2ghz (tested stable with 40 c max temp)
gtx 560 1gb EVGA factory superclock 850mhz
4gb g.skill RAM 1600mhz
bind k profile
Or any other key.. and then press it when it happens, accompanied by hitting the spacebar to freeze the profiler in place. Then expand the most resource intensive items from the top of the list (shown with the purple bars) and once all the important ones are expanded take a screenshot of whats going on.
Would be worth it to capture this moment as well with r_stats and net_stats turned on (when not taking a shot of the profiler)
Post results here.
:)
Do you get this lag on Veil's Cargo location?
I could maybe buy SSD if this is a HD problem..
I've moved NS2 to my SSD, and that seemed to have fixed this issue. With that said though, I don't think you should get an SSD just for NS2. SSDs are amazing though, and if you've been thinking about getting one anyway for a system disk, then I would highly recommend it.
Yeah I got a small (60gb) SSD which I have my windows and some programs in.
I previously had Steam folder in it too, but it got too large so I had to move it to my normal HD.
But I guess I will buy a bigger SSD then (now that they are a lot cheaper).
Try enabling streaming textures if you haven't tried that yet, it seems to try to load only the textures needed at the time, but if enough starts going on in a game, such as late-game, it might not help. If that doesn't help lowering textures would be the only option other than buying something.

Actually all of Veil is particularly bad for this, I think. Mineshaft gets it too, but Tram almost never does.
Also it happens almost every time I use the minimap to quickly focus the camera on an area with numerous players or structures as a commander, though generally for less time (or perhaps it is merely my impression that it lasts less time because I'm not trying to evade bullets at that moment). As usual, after the hang, my framerate is perfectly fine even in dense bases, but the denser the base, the longer the hang.

It is in fact a 1Gig card http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16814125385 I've tried streaming textures both on and off without noting a discernable difference, yet.
