Flickering, pink triangles

Graphical issue
Hi guys,

I've had my copy of NS2 since alpha, but didn't play regularly, so I don't know at what point in time that this bug occurred - but I do know it wasn't always like this. I would say about two months ago I was playing without a problem on my current system, but over the last couple of weeks I've been experiencing this graphical issue where large pink artefacts appear and flicker all around the screen. I decided until post-release to see if it was fixed, but I'm afraid it hasn't.

There doesn't appear to be any correlation between their occurrence and anything that's happening in the game, though there are times when the problem becomes really bad and I don't know why. Before I was in a Lerk's poison cloud and it got particularly worse, so I'm assuming it might have something to do with particles.

I've tinkered with every graphical option, but it never fully goes away. In fact, lowering some settings seem to make it worse.

Bumping because they are definitely stemming from particle systems. Welders, flamethrowers, steam jets all emit the pink triangles in addition to their own particles. There are no settings to turn off particle effects, but is there a console command or something?

Have you tried reinstalling the game? Sounds like some files are missing. (Verifying game cache files doesn't seem to do a very thorough job at the moment)

Yep, I tried verifying (found nothing missing) and reinstalled the game just a couple of minutes ago. Still appears. I also tried the 'r_particles false' console command to test my theory about it being particle related but that doesn't fix it either.

I dunno if this helps but when I go into alien's heat vision, they appear highlighted so it might actually be connected to the models.

Alright it worked for one guy so no harm trying. Delete the shaders folder in \steamapps\common\natural selection 2\ns2\

(note its in the folder ns2 not in core!)

Then reverify game cache files. :)

Do you have the last ATI driver ? it have some fixes for the game!
I have the same setup like you but no graphics problems...

Maybe it don't like the overclocking! try booting in normal and test

Open up, catalyst control center for videocard, reset preferences to default.

    If not, try this

Hmm, I tested everyone's suggestions but I'm still experiencing the problem. It's really weird because I seem to be the only person experiencing it, but I have no idea why.

Well this is weird, because now the problem seems to be gone. I'm guessing the catalyst reinstall did work, I just had to tinker with it a little further. Thanks!
