No main menu, crash on join game

<div class="IPBDescription">No shader template loaded for surface shader manager</div>Posting on behalf of a friend who can't play the game.

He doesn't have any main menu, however he does have a cursor and can hear the sound effects of the main menu as he hovers over the options that aren't visible. Here is a screenshot of his console.

He has deleted his %appdata%/Natural Selection 2 folder and re installed Natural Selection 2 completely from Steam with no effect.

When he tries to join a game off of steam friends the game crashes to desktop.

Has he tried verifying Steam cache files after his last reinstall?

Try deleting the shaders folder in his ns2 game directory and also running the directx setup in the redist folder.

Yes, no effect.

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\natural selection 2\ns2\shaders

Then I had Steam validate and redownload the missing files and that worked!!<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

Got a main menu!
So corrupted shaders don't get validated unless they're completely deleted.

Waiting for confirmation on game join, but I suspect it'll work.
