Lifeform res death-drop

Watching the recent Guru Grand Finals I had a bit of a brainsurge regarding Alien Lifeforms. Alien lifeforms can be very unforgiving, as the value of abilities like redemption, feign death and hypermutation (even if unintended) demonstrate. Marine weapons drop on the ground upon death so that that PRes can continue to be used by the team or the player after respawning, mitigating the risk of buying weapons significantly. A similar but assymeterical mechanic for the Aliens may be really useful in encouraging higher lifeform play.

I suggest that when a higher lifeform dies it drops a bio-goo mound of 'res' on the ground, proportionate with the lifeform that died. When an alien player comes and hits +use on that mound he gains some of that res and the rest is given back to the player who died. Visa versa if the player who died hits +use then he gains some res and gives the rest to the his team.

This would create a similar yet different dynamic for recovering lifeform res to how marines do. Unlike marines the res can be repurposed for other uses. Unlike marines though the res is not concentrated in one player's hands, or be the full amount for the lifeform.

It also is easily balance-able by a few factors. 1) What percentage of res is dropped; 2) How much goes back to the player who died; 3) How long it takes to recover that res, 4) The percentage that each lifeform drops i.e. Gorge's may drop a full 10 yet a Fade might drop only 25 or 30 and 5) How long it takes for that res mound to disintegrate like a marine weapon does.

This alien recovery mechanic may even be integrated into the chamber upgrade system. Normally a small amount of res may be dropped, perhaps 10-25%, but an evolution ability might allow for 50% or even 100% to be recovered. This could be a great way of making lifeform play more forgiving without making it too easy for Alien's to re-evolve after a death. It also would make 'noobs' who make poor use of their PRes less crippling for the team, becoming even a strange boon for the other players as the 'noobs' lifeform PRes mound is partially redistributed around the team. Overall, this could be a great way to 'grease' the inner workings of Alien team and make it more pleasant for everyone, from 'pro' to 'scrub.'

I like your thought ideas. Aliens are desperate in need of default abilities, and/or upgrades that allow them to salvage resources.

The problem with giving RES is balance and abuse, like the team georging, suiciding, one person taking it all to get an early onos.

But I like your idea of alien death giving something back, so how about corpses being like a health kit for aliens.

You have to stop and 'feed' off the dead body, making you vunerable, but you get a chunck of health back.

Could also make for some interesting 'kill yourself to feed the team onos' tactics.

this interesting argument makes me think it might be ok for (just alien team!) to have RFK
