Server performance scaling information needed

<div class="IPBDescription">Slots / CPU speed</div>Hi,

May I know if there is a known performance scaling for the current server version? I am intending to host one or two servers for the release but I need for number of slots that I can put for the clock speeds. More specifically I am looking at hosting these servers using the 2012 Mac Mini with 2.3GHz quad cores.

Don't think you'd get much mileage with that. I don't have the exact figures but for older builds, that would probably only handle 10 players :/

Indeed, I hate to tell you this - but it's looking like you'll be able to cope with 8-10 slots max, you might just be able to push for a 6v6 private match server across two cores but Im not sure if it'll hold at an appropriate tickrate.

Best data relating server hardware to performance is <a href="http://www.unknownworlds.com/ns2/forums/index.php?showtopic=121581" target="_blank">here</a>. However, we don't have enough data to say much except that servers need about a 4.0GHz Ivy or Sandy bridge CPU to run 20-24 players smoothly.

Is there any word on when the servers will be able to use more than two cores? I have been looking around for any server information regarding this, but I have had no such luck. I am thinking nothing has changed in that regard for servers though, so that is why I can't find anything on it.

Might be "never" because of LUA

What about 3.3GHz that the procesor can turbo up to? I am counting on the turbo speeds improving performance.

Preference is to reduce server load rather than shift it onto other cores. Also, I'd expect the default turbo for the high-level Xeon/i5/i7 to be good for smooth play in the 16-18 player range. However, I'd suggest disabling the downclocking EIST and C-states functions as they can affect performance.

    I was afraid of that.

Just to echo Scardy here; please disable C1E at the very least, here is an app that will work for most people that don't have bios access to their box: <a href="http://www.tweakers.fr/cputweaker.html" target="_blank">http://www.tweakers.fr/cputweaker.html</a>
