Wonky behaviour with the new hit cones

Il start:
The lower dmg cones appear to be slightly longer than the full dmg cone, so sometimes you hit for 25 or 50 dmg even when marine is dead in your sights because you are a little too far. I assume that this is intentional as it certainly makes sense.
The rangefinding on the skulk melee seems kinda wonky, last game I jumped on a marine and sat on his head while biting but the bites did only 50 dmg even though I was literally sitting on his head.

Getting a 25 dmg hit while looking directly at the marine or getting 75 damage when they're on the far left/right side of my screen.
The only thing I can think of is possibly biting them between the legs, thus only registering the 25/50 dmg cone, or something that makes absolutely no sense.
I hate spamming bite, but I'm rather forced to with the poor model collisions and randomness of bite numbers. And god how I miss focus even more now.
