depends on how many team mates you have with you and how early you are in the game, ip-obs-power-phase

Meh obs is easier to kill and if they get the chance to beacon it wont matter whether they have PG's or IP's...

sometimes forcing them to beacon causes a counter attack on their expansion putting them on the backfoot

It's fairly obvious, use bilebomb to take down fortified bases.<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

Some power nodes are in such places that attempting to bile-bomb results in inevitable læwlz for the marine team, and many dead gorges.

Clipping armories into power nodes delays what is currently one of the most powerful tactics in the game - the skulk pack power node rush.

It gives the marine com. extra padding time and effectively doubles the powernode HP, since the skulks can't bite the power node directly before taking the clipped armory down.

In the early- and mid- game, this can be devastating to an alien team, especially if they rely on a base rush to make marines which are in their hive(s) beacon back to base.

As much as bile bomb is an effective counter, the alien team shouldn't be forced to have to use it. Especially considering gorges are the least powerful units in the game and if the marine team know that they have to use them to lay down a viable seige on the powernode (as they've exhausted any other options due to the armory blocking) then that can easily be countered by fast grenade launchers, or even flamethrowers (and doesn't even need to be countered anyway as gorges are weak as ######). Also, it means that you have to wait for 2nd hive and for bile to be researched (and this is usually put on the backburner in favour of leap, blink, and upgrades). So aliens cant launch a reasonable attack on the powernode without a second hive and bile. Meaning they have less chance of coming back on 1 hive.

so then it seems most people agree and armory block is a valid tactic. does that mean ns2 should take it to the next step and have a marine structure that is only for the purpose of creating a barricade?

like a concrete wall type thing that the commander can drop?

So aparently preventing the pressing of your instant win buttin isnt legit. OK kids. whatever you say.

Aliens already have this, we don't need to homogenize the teams even more.

It is technically considered an exploit. You're using something in a way it wasn't meant to be used.
It's in no way different than using Hypermutation to restore your Health/Armor/Energy(which was fixed in the latest patch)

Personally I don't see any way to fix it other than only allowing armories to be built in specific locations like Command points. That would probably detract from the gameplay of NS2 though so i don't advocate it.

That being said I also don't care if it's in or not, I'm just stating that it is in context of the word an Exploit.

Yah old man, I want my instant win button, mmkay?

P.S. The armory blocking that occurred all over the place in the tournament, especially inv. vs exertus is 100% legit, no complaints against that. What's not legit is clipping armories.

To everybody saying that "you can't weld the powernode if there's an armory in the way" - isn't it as simple as recycling the armory?

Yes it is. The armory exploit is for covering against skulks though, if you let a gorge bile-bomb your power node unattended you deserve to lose anyway :-) .
