Why Is It....

Everytime I play, marines are almost always on the defensive throughout the entire game untill about half-way through the game, where aliens already have skulks + lerk combo, which is nearly unbeatable when they use umbera + acid rockets together.....

In most games, when marines go on the offense, we win. Why?

1. You control the resource points

2. You have control of the map

3. More resource = better weapons and armor

4. Aliens have a tough time breaking down triangle formation + siege turrets

5. Once you have a TF setup outside their hive(s), they have no chance of winning.

Why should you NOT be defensive at all except the first five minutes of the game.

1. Usually your commandor will be a pain, and will be too busy with defense then to drop a resource point....

2. You will be constantly low on resources.... which means no weapons...

3. Onos will come.... trust me on this one...

4. If you give Aliens 3 resource points, they'll be constantly pumping out Fades already...

5. Alien outposts are tough to breakdown by yourself.... especially if your Comm doesn't drop ammo + health packs....

6. Aliens can manage to go on defense for awhile, then switch to offense, why? Marines tend to stay on defense half
the game, and then they refuse to leave the base. Aliens on the other hand, because of the resources are INDIVIDUAL,
they really don't care.... even they're builders can kick the crap outta marines if used correctly.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again...attack attack attack...keep at them, don't let them breath. Once while commanding I allowed the aliens to bring up a second hive...I was a tad occupied. Right after I noticed it I sent in 2 squads to take it down. There were still no fades after 5 minutes simply because the aliens only had two rescourse nodes on the whole map...the two in the hives. Starve either side of resources...especially the Kahraa...and they won't be able to fight you effectively

That is a very simplistic answer, dude. That is like saying:

    Way to win:
1>Take all the resource points, take over hives
    2> ...........
    3>Win!

How do you continually keep them out of both hives? Keep them from getting any resource points? Remember - there are as many of them as there are of you, and they can ALL build if they need to.

I just wonder, how do you manage to take the res noz without getting skulks killing the res noz because you don't have sentries? You can't spread out your marines so 1 stands at each res noz...

Well, if you can keep the pressure on them hot enough, they won't have time to be wandering around to find your resource tower. You obviously can't leave them defended forever, but sometimes it might be preferable to leave the tower undefended while your marines move on to put pressure on the enemy hive. Keep them occupied and on the defencive, and your tower should be safe long enough to pay for itself. Maybe. It's a risk, but the other way is risky, too. Take took long, and the opportunity to hurt them early may have passed. Once the aliens get fades, those turrets aren't going to be doing much anyway.

while it wont win the game it will help.. Marines always seem to defend, but never take over other important spots.. GO FOR THEIR HIVES!

Most of the "n00b" commanders I've fought under turtle us in with mounds and mounds of turrets. Of course, when I object and tell him he's a moron, I get blasted with "STFU N00B FAG".

If the marines don't go on the offensive and STAY on the offensive, they will lose.

you have to attack the other team. restrict their movements. do not let them expand uninhibited (sp?). best way to accomplish this is with very smart and small turret farms.

one of the biggest mistakes i see made is too much emphasis placed on all the hives early on. secure one hive and secure the major resource nozzles. then strangle the other team. this is especially true in a pub where you cannot micromanage every marine, when not everyone knows each of the maps or the points that need to be defended.

on every map there are 2 - 3 certain points that when controlled severely restrict the opposing team. the key to this though is to never leave those points alone (whether with a small turret farm or offense chambers). you must continue to send 2 - 3 of your guys that way each time. resulting in the continual pushing back of the enemy. further restricting their movements and resource allocation.

after the first few minutes of a round, charging into the enemy's territory with guns a blazing will usually not result in any positive gains. patience is a virtue. give giant pushes in 2 spots at once. throw the opposing team into disarray b/c they do not know what they are doing. surround and then destroy.

Good point othell. I see commanders trying to take 2 Hives back to back - that doesn't work. You really do need to get some more resources during that time, and keep teching up. Fades aren't the end of the world - it seems that some people's first goal is to prevent the aliens from getting Fades in the first place.
