Option for Steam Server browser instead

I realize that the game's server browser will be getting an overhaul soon, but I'm pretty sure that I'd still prefer the built in Steam browser (once that's up and running of course).
It does after all have pretty much every feature under the sun you could ever want from a server browser (country filtering, auto-join, history, favorites, etc.)
Would it be possible to instead of opening the game's own browser when clicking "Play" to invoke the Steam browser, much like Vavle's own games such as TF2? If not as an official options toggle, then perhaps as a mod?

(the server list ingame is pretty woeful at the moment ;) functional, but that's about it ;) .. on mine, it's like there's a 2-3 second lag, and clicking on a server doesn't guarentee you'll pick the one you want.. or even 1 within a few lines of the one you wanted .. but yeah, I know it's gonna get an overhaul .. )
Steam server list is great for finding games with friends already playing ;)
this was great in ns1, you could easily swap servers or see where your friends were playing etc.
