Weird artifacts with "Medium" Ambient Occlusion

So I started fiddling with the graph. settings tonight to see if I can bring my FPS to a solid 60 (with a single OCd GTX 480 on 1920x1080) because sometimes they dip to around 45 and it annoys me greatly (although 221 seems to have improved things a little bit) and I was experimenting with different settings.
I noticed that there are some pretty severely bad artifacts when ambient occlusion is switched to "medium." I think you might as well remove that option or improve it somehow; it makes some walls appear like there's moving ripples on them (hard to describe, just turn it on and run around on docking for example) and I can't really imagine anyone wanting that "effect."
Is this intentional and final or are the shaders still being worked on, somewhat?
