Black screen on game start up

I'm getting a black screen any time I open the game. I've tried lowering the resolution, lowering graphics, window mode, restarting, reinstalling, validating and defragmenting. Nothing seems to work and it looks like no one else gets the issue.
It started about 2-3 months ago, after I tried a few things I just gave up and left it hoping it would be updated and hopefully fix itself but it looks like nothings happened.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Specs:
Windows 7 x64
Core i7 950 (stock)
2x Nvidia GTX560ti 1GB SLI
12GB DDR3 RAM

Thanks
Some servers like HBZ1 running custommaps via steamworkshop. Some people reporting blackscreens if they try to connect these servers.
workaround:
sign up for custommaps in the workshop. HBZ1 runs triad for example.
Followed the instructions on this thread in post #8, worked perfectly!
For anyone else:
- Deleted local content for NS2 via steam
- Deleted the NS2 folder in the AppData directory (e.g. \AppData\Roaming\Natural Selection 2)
- Deleted the NS2 folder in the Steam directory (e.g. \Steam\steamapps\common\Natural Selection 2)
- Re-download NS2
Black screen disappeared, and reset all graphics settings to default! was able to max everything out again and played a few games.
Under Natural Selection 2 folder, there are 2 shader folders, one under "core" and one under "ns2". I copied the contents of "core\shaders\" to "ns2\shaders\".
I don't know why, but the 2nd folder has older & missing files. That's why I tried to "patch" it myself. After doing so, I was able to boot the game normally. Hopefully this helps someone else aswell.
