Read to understand what I mean :D
How come NS2 hasn't never been on http://www.kickstarter.com/ . A place where people may donate to make a dream come through and a good place to spread the word about it. :)

After four days they've gained over 1.5mil.
Also in kickstarter there is alot of people, so spreading out the word about NS2 is also succesful using kickstarter.
Major props.
I can only imagine how different everything would have been if funded that way though... I think it went pretty well though!

well.. project eternity isnt a fair example. i'm leaning that it's more marketing than actually needing the kickstarter funding. huge in-built fan-base for that type of game. idk. maybe funders looked at arcanum and ToEE early sales & had second thoughts.
We probably would have tried that out, if we had to do it over again and kickstarter was around. However there are some drawbacks.
For one thing, we've made more money off of pre-orders which continue all through development, then we probably would have made from asking for one fixed amount of money. The other thing is that all those kickstarter campaigns come with a very real cost to the developer, which is all the perks. There are a lot of companies that have complained about getting the funding they needed, but then having to spend months making and packing and shipping out all the Backer perks, like t-shirts and posters etc.
