Project Eternity is Obsidian Entertainment's next game, being created by that studio and specifically the power trio of Chris Avellone, Josh Sawyer, and Tim Cain. It's an isometric party-based fantasy RPG set in a world where magic is based on people's souls and there's a place called Eír Glanfath and there are Watchers. We don't really know anything about it. Some facts we do know:

Voice work is going to be present but only in certain situations for emphasis/flavor. Much of the dialog will be read by the player.

The game will potentially include "mature" themes that publishers generally don't like. I don't know what's more mature than killing a thousand people like in Dragon Age 2 but whatever.

The combat is pausable real time like Baldur's Gate, Planescape: Torment, etc.

You create your character but not your party members - the party members, like in PS:T or New Vegas or whatever, are pre-made and have their own personalities and will develop over the course of the game.

There's a place called Godhammer Citadel. It may or may not be like Home Depot for elves.

But Tycho, Aren't All Obsidian Games Buggy?
Dungeon Siege 3 wasn't buggy. And Fallout: New Vegas wasn't bad, considering the engine it was on. Alpha Protocol on the PC was pretty good bug-wise. And this time Obsidian doesn't have a publisher breathing down its neck so they won't be forced to crap out a KOTOR II style abomination.

No Publisher?
Yeah, through Kickstarter, Obsidian Entertainment is raising money directly from fans, so they've got a brand new game in a brand new world that's theirs and theirs alone to work on. Avellone puts it like this"

QUOTE

Project: Eternity is our opportunity to FINALLY develop our own fantasy RPG world and franchise. FINALLY. Did I say FINALLY enough? One more time: FINALLY.

Who are these Avellone, Sawyer, and Cain Gus you Mentioned?
These three guys!

Chris Avellone has dreamy blue eyes that make you fall in love with him:

He also worked on games like Fallout 2, Planescape: Torment, KOTOR II, the Fallout: New Vegas DLC, and the upcoming Wasteland 2.

Josh Sawyer has sick tats:

Fantasy Again? Do We Really Need to Remake Baldur's Gate, Tycho?
Josh Sawyer has some choice words for you. And remember that Chris Avellone is the guy who made a Star Wars game, KOTOR II, that was basically a philosophical deconstruction and reexamination of the entire concept of the Star Wars universe. CEO Feargus Urquhart has this to say about the setting:

QUOTE

We talked a lot about the genre and to be honest we kept on coming back to fantasy. With all the experience we have had with a lot of varied fantasy settings, we are really looking for to taking our unique approach with factions, characters and mature themes to the setting. Ultimately, we really feel that what an RPG is about is the characters and the story – not the setting. Hit points are hit points whether you are killing past, present or future zombies. What engages and what keeps you going in an RPG are characters that you love and hate and story lines that tug at your emotions.

When is it Coming Out? What Platforms?
2014, god willing. PC right now, Mac and Linux potentially too.
