Is half life needed for ns2?

I used to play ns back when it first came out. I remember you needed half life to play it. I preordered lastnight and see steam makes no mention of other requirements. I just want to make sure this is true?

Also do people still play ns1? I want to make sure its still active before I need to buy half life again. Last time I used steam was in like 05.

It is a stand alone game, you do not need HL2 to run it.

Natural Selection 2 is running on a new engine developed by Unknown Worlds Entertainment, Spark. Half-Life is not a requirement to run the game.

Thanks guys. I can't wait for ns2. I still remember the epic 2 Hr+ battles in ns1.....good times.
