A Few Questions to Ask

Questions

1. Will the game be polished more to the point that it will run as good as say Half Life 2 Engine?

2. What other features/mechanics will be added in the near future?

3. Marine movement, at the moment I feel it's very sluggish and needs more refinement, much like you feel in the Source engine.

4. Fades, any way to prevent it from being so user friendly and dumbed down? Make it more like NS1?

5. Anything you feel you need to mention in this post if any developers do decide to respond

Keep up the good work, I have become a true fan.

I can't answer all your questions. But you should keep in mind that the Source engine is ancient by now. Of course it runs smooth. It was made for computers from 2004. I agree that movement (of most classes) could need another pass.

I'm not so sure what you mean by question four. Are you suggesting that it would be better to make the Fade movement less intuitive?

I guess I never had a problem handling steep learning curves in video games, the NS1 lerk was a great example of this, but I don't think a good solution is to make some feature of a game less accessible to others.

Granted, it was preaty cool being one of only three people who could use the Lerk as a melee terror for something like 5 months in NS1, the game is vastly improved by making the controls more accessible to others, and there's no denying that.

So, I hope you're not suggesting that the Fade should be less accessible.

Try hitting jump just before tapping blink. Angle up just the slightest bit to give your arc some distance. You will go stupid fast, fly around at levels of an NS1 Fade, and use up almost no energy. This allows plenty of energy to actually do trixy blink maneuvers in combat.

False. It gets updated, look at CS:GO and Dota 2. They call it source but it gets updated whilst new games are created. They still make it is so their system req work well with the majority of gamers.

Updated or not, everything NurEinMensch said is true. It's an older engine, and 10 years old is pretty ancient for gaming software. Think about it, if Valve updated GoldSRC all the time and never made Source, none of their games would have come out nearly as nice. Modern computers ALL run said engine smooth as butter. The same is true for Source, it is older, stable, and was designed for older hardware.

Ultimately there is a reason engines are ditched - at a certain point it becomes more efficient to ditch it and move to a new engine.

    1. Source is pretty old and ugly. Even new releases such as CSGO and Dota 2 are not technically up to par with modern titles. It will always run smoother since its not as demanding.
However comparing a similarly graphically intensive game to NS2, NS2 will always run slower due to the nature of LUA scripts. UWE can only work hard to reduce the impact.

    2. Dynamic infestation eventually. There may be more features eventually coming but I think NS2 is feature complete for release. They probably will just be doing changes to improve balance now.

    3. I believe this was intentional. Both sides move more sluggish compared to NS1. Marines used to bunnyhop everywhere, and I think UWE were trying to force the game to have a serious ambiance by removing it.

    4. Not really sure how they can improve them unless they go back to NS1 style blink.

I'll take a good framerate over fancy looks any day. Dynamic infestation too hardware hungry? Scrap it. Heck, even if the game runs perfectly at maximum details, I'll tone them down to increase enemy visibility.
