Will upgrading GPU get better fps?

Hey, just a quick question, has anyone upgraded their graphics card and got improved fps?

I know everyone says it's about CPU, but I done a benchmark on a local server with my cpu at default settings (2.66ghz with 3.2 turbo) and then with a 4ghz overclock and the FPS was the exact same. No difference in frame times or anything. I have no doubt fps on actual servers will be improved because of the prediction taking less time, but is the GPU also a bottleneck for max fps? I just want like 20 more fps....pweez

Tell us your specs (the 'turbo' sounds like Intel?) and the FPS you have right now. Maybe someone can help then. Where's the guy with this signature? Say hello:D

See if lowering your resolution improves framerate. If it does, better GPU will certainly help.

    Specs:

    i5 750 @ 3.99ghz
    4870 - 512mb
    4gb ram (1520mhz)

I get 48fps average in a local server (obviously lower than that when actually playing), but as I said overclocking to 3.99ghz from 2.6 gave no increase at all. I know there are people who get more than this on actual servers but I don't know what the bottleneck in my system is. If it was cpu then I would have expected even a small increase from overclocking.

Okay, dushan I'll test it out ^^

Btw, anyone know what texture streaming is?

[EDIT] Quickly tested it, avg FPS in a local went from 48 at 1680x1050 to 82 at 800x600. Might just play on chunky low res for a while :D

:-O Sounds like a new graphics card would be very helpful. That, or bug Max to do more rendering optimization :)

Texture streaming only loads high res textures required within some radius of the player. I believe this lowers pressure on the driver to swap textures in and out of the GPU eliminating one source of hitching. This is a brand new system and I'm sure Max will be working out any kinks over the next build or two.

    I had intel c2d e6850 @ 3.6GHz + nV 88gts...
    ...when I got a gtx480 fps doubled!
...when I later got a top CPU from todays assortment, fps doubled again! and somewhat more when i OC:d it to 4.1GHz

You could be having a vram bottle neck. On high settings I have used up to 1900mbs of vram. When I overclock from 3ghz to 4.5 ghz I get a pretty good fps boost. Like 10-15fps but I havn't played 217 yet.
