different cloak mechanic

Problem with the current cloaking system: it enforces 'camping', not that camping is bad, but it just doesn't work in NS, because while you're camping, you're not killing marines or chomping RTs.

Also, I have almost never ever even seen anyone use cloaking for ambushing, its just not viable, because you might as well hide in a dark corner on the ceiling, which is probably just as effective!

the mechanic: hold down a button, and it cloaks you, soaks energy just like blink does.

Moving at normal speed is on its own ofcourse massivly overpowered, but I think a simple tweak could fix this: aliens near a marine (3-4 meter or so) automatically un-cloak. because of nanites in the marine suits.

This way, you can use cloaking in combat (you can run up to marines, while cloaked) instead of camping all day while the marines get all the res towers...

If it were implemented like this, I'd think its a viable subsitute for carapace for example.

what are your thoughts on this?

    would enjoy very much, would like to see a high initial energy cost but minimal drain... such that skulk cant blink in and out of reality mid fight... but now instead of adren leap you have adren cloak...

    --Must include--
    max speed should be less then rine run
    cant cloak attack
    at least 1-2 sec cool down
    large initial energy requirment


    Other idea to add alow cloacking in range of observitory, but double energy requirments to remain cloaked...

    I don't think that cloaking is useful in its current form without changing how aliens get upgrades. In particular: you can have silence, or cloaking, but not both. So if you can run at full speed while cloaked, the marines would hear you. To counter this you would have to walk, which means you're going as fast as the current implementation.

    The only conceivable places cloak would get used is when camping (similar effect to just having a shade nearby) or when passing enemy units. The minute you're within range of an observatory, cloaking is negated. In both of these cases having cloak consume energy is very debilitating.

    Unless they come up with a way to make it more useful (I've written some suggestions <a href="http://www.unknownworlds.com/ns2/forums/index.php?showtopic=119617&hl=" target="_blank">here</a>) it'll remain the last-researched upgrades, and only used by aliens to clown around.
