I seem to be able to join a game just fine but once I'm in the waiting room - or spawned all I see is a black screen. I can hear the game going on around me and I can hear myself walk around but I cant see anything. This is what came up in the console when I first joined

Could not load 'shader shaders/(seemed like most every file Emissive and Model ones)'
ID3DXEffectCompiler:there were no techniques
ID3DXEffectCompiler:compilation failed

I see a ton of the different errors for could not load shader 'shaders a ton of Emissive. ones and Model_ ones as well.

I first had this error for this page:

http://www.unknownworlds.com/ns2/forums/in...howtopic=120063

and did the recommended fix to delete 'GUISystem.shader_template' in 'Steam\steamapps\common\natural selection 2\ns2\shaders'

and that worked for the menu screen error - but now I get this problem.

any suggestions will help

Try these steps I suggest in this post:

QUOTE (ScardyBob @ Jun 19 2012, 07:28 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

So I just ran into this problem on my laptop. Essentially, Steam popped up saying it was fiddling with my NS2 files and after it finished NS2 loaded with a blackscreen and this spammed in console:
    ID3DXEffectCompiler: Compilation Failed
    ID3DXEffectCompiler: There were no techniques

To fix it I had to do the following:
    - Deleted local content for NS2 via steam
    - Deleted the NS2 folder in the AppData directory (e.g. \AppData\Roaming\Natural Selection 2)
    - Deleted the NS2 folder in the Steam directory (e.g. \Steam\steamapps\common\Natural Selection 2)
    - Redownloaded NS2

It seems the 'Delete local content' option in Steam doesn't fully get rid of all NS2 files, which is why I needed to manually delete those others.
