I can understand that, which is why I asked about style :p
Even just using currrent alien types and model, but balancing and adjusting lighting/map doodads etc to get the Aliens 'feel'

Aliens wasn't exactly what we were going for, but Sanity fits a lot of your requests; darkness, grit, lower lighting, higher dmg enemies(hardcore by default), required teamwork. We have conversion, sort of a faster chestbuster method of converting humans to aliens.

this is very true, they are VERY protective of the franchise, so Id say its a big no, no one is stupid enough to risk doing it.
