Possibility of a public demo before or at release?

In the days of NS1 and before game demos were the norm, you almost always played a game first then bought it if you liked it. Sadly that practice has become a rarity these days, leaving it mainly to indie games and mmo's 'open betas'.

Given the starkly mixed opinions expressed on these forums and ongoing issues like performance I am disinclined to buy blind, despite the fact I liked NS1 alot and have checked up on this games progress from time to time for what seems like 7 years.

So how about it?. I suspect there are others like me on the sidelines who may pass by completely if they cannot test the water first.

There is hopes for some kind of free weekend like other games such as TF2 have done in the past. I have no idea if it will happen or when it would.

A free weekend or two on steam would do great things.

Maybe if people were allowed a one day trial...

I like the idea of a free weekend. You can download it for free but have some server sided code that denies after the free weekend is over. That coupled with some steam not letting you play it, I don't know how that side works.
