I don't honestly see any logical reason to have removed the secondary fire... it was the answer to the skulks parasite in early game. He could parasite you from far away and only need 2 bites to kill you and with the pistol you could hit a skulk once or twice to weaken them a lot to finish them off. After they got cara the pistol and laser become useless anyway.
I miss them too. We're currently toying with the idea of both a secondary laser based weapon, and the solid state plasma rifle that will fire a laser-like blast; they'll use an alteration of the pistol laser beam, and the blue lasers from the build gun. I always had an issue with the placement of the beam vs where it landed on the target, we want dead on accuracy with ours.
I wasn't around for them but it would be nice to get a reason as to why it was taken out. Seems like a fun thing that added to the overall feeling of Marines.

Oh yes, sometimes I just run with pistol only, definitely want the secondary fire back! And the laser too, it looks so good when there are like 4 marines with lasers on(however I don't get why aliens are allowed to see it too)! Was really confused when read about it on the changelog, maybe UWE are reworking it, but still why removing?
Though I'd like changes to the secondary attack itself, would prefer it to deal bit less damage than 40, but make it Heavy or Normal damage type, Rifle obsoletes Pistol because Pistol can inflict 250 damage per clip and Rifle does 500, even despite that Pistol empties a clip faster. Also normal/heavy damage would make more difference between the weapons.
I'd like to feel pistol even more like a proper weapon, not just a backup, even though it is(was) better than in most games(maybe any). I miss 3-shooting skulks with pistol and miss the normal damage type. And the heavy damage type doesn't exist now at all. Also I remember there was a sound change to the Pistol around 180th build or so, much heavier sound, maybe I just got used to it but I think the sound was changed again to a less powerful one, would really like the revolver sound back =D

The laser pistol is only viable up until skulks get carapace. By that time other upgrades would be a lot more important. Good idea though.
