Making them, and Robo builds, viable
Longtime NS player, longtime NS2 forum lurker, see requests for quality I&S to tweak developer concepts rather than revoking them. These are the result. Statistics here are only an example to illustrate the concept.
Problem
Sentry turrets now not cost effective and die too easily.
Old sentry turrets promoted stalemates.
Idea Concept/Summary
Sentry turrets revert to old HP (1300?), damage, aiming characteristics - i.e. they actually work.
Sentries now have an internal power supply.
Details/Examples
Sentries can still fire even if power node dies (e.g. 5 shots).
Sentries regenerate power from active Power Node.
Power node sentry power is split amongst all sentries in that room.
Break-even point is 2 sentries.
At 3+ sentries and above, sentries use more power than is generated, reducing efficiency and making spam in-efficient.
Bonus
Make Power Nodes more integral, yet not forced, to gameplay.
New Commander Ability - Energy Surge - replenishes power supply.
Synergistic with my "Power Node rework" idea.

EDIT; yeah, maybe a slight health buff.

You shouldn't die killing sentries as all you need to do is get behind it, it has a 180 degree field of rotation so you can munch on it safely from behind.
