Make the game playable at lower resolution

I play on a 4:3 monitor so perhaps this problem is unique to me, but would it kill the devs to make it so the chat doesn't overlap with my crosshair?
I mean honestly.
Why even allow resolutions under 1024x768 if its impossible to play on it? The commanders UI overlaps with eachother and you can only see about 1/3 of your actual screen while commanding.
Is there a looah setting to disable chat or make the font MUCH smaller?
I get a lot better performance on 800x600 and I've played on that resolution for years in all games I play competitive for multiple reasons.
Any chance of a fix of some kind?

I hope they updated it cause I would crash about 50% of the time while using menumod. I'd rather just have a looah setting to move chat or just fix the text in general, but I'll try it out and post if it fixed the problem.
You can choose the resolution for the UI and ingame. This would immediately make the game more playable for everyone.
Or atleast it always looks terrible to me; not to mention the font rendering issues...
Game runs at 200 fps at 800x600 res.
Yeah right.

Does anybody actually play with the default crosshair? If so, no wonder most marine players can't aim.

How do you change the crosshair?
Download custom one, put it in \ui folder.

Game may run at 200 fps when at 800x600 resolution depending on the computer... but you can only see as many frames as your monitors refresh rate. To back up my cliam http://bftips.com/2012/07/120hz-and-60hz-m...-battlefield-3/
It's just 4 pixels on each line, as to be as minimal as possible without just being a dot crosshair.

Check this guy out, not getting any 900+ meter head-shots in BF3, are we?

I think the value is ensuring that your FPS didn't drop below 60 at any time, rather than getting 200 FPS in the ready room. I never really saw much of a difference in fps by dropping my resolution (though I didn't go to 800x600), but I tested that a while ago and maybe its changed now.
I think the main gripe with FPS is that it varies too much, which influences the way the game speed feels. That, and the hitches that still occur every now and then. The hitches are being worked on though, has a lot to do with the way the engine loads assets when you first see them, and garbage collecting code.
As for the resolution, I agree it should be possible to set the resolution lower without having the UI be in the way. This is, however, a low-priority thing. Every gamer I personally know and I think most gamers in general, will be using a resolution of at least 1280x1024 and higher. Perhaps at some point it'll be addressed, perhaps even for 1.0, but I wouldn't prioritize it if I were to decide.

BF3 isn't a real game :-P
It's a shiny surface simulator, and a boy version of a barbie dress up game. (tons of guns and accessories for them).
I think I had over 50% accuracy with my .50 cal and over 50% of my shots were headshots. Game is too easymode.
Nice crosshairs eh... they seem somewhat more sci-fi and quakesque to me. I'll have to make my own crosshairs sometime to look exactly like 1.6
Oh ya, I just remembered the game is capped at 100 fps. Should be 120 fps for the 120 hz monitor people.

I like the top statement. Lol. But not all of us are pro gamers with twitch accuracy.
