Improving welding

Right now its quite hard to get players to stand still for you to weld them. Some easy ideas to fix this:

1. Increase volume of welder sound when the welder is on but not welding anything. This will become the 'beacon' sound for welding, so players know you have it out.
2. Increase volume and give distinct sound when welder is actively welding. This way players know you're welding them.
3. Big flashy indicator in the lower left corner around the armor indicator giving a visual indicator while being welded.

Longer term

1. When a player brings out his welder, if there are players in need of welding nearby play a voice effect "Hey, let me patch you up" or some variations to that effect.

    good idea!

perhaps somekind of visual effect on the player's viewmodel (weapon/hands in the first person view) so that they can visually see that something is happening to them.

Something similar to the nanoshield fx, but making it look more like a repair function, with little nanites flowing down the arm and into the armor like a blood transfusion kind of thing. (not that you can see nanites but yeah lol)

In NS1 whenever a marine would press E with a welder out and anyone with a welder nearby would be given the command to weld via waypoint and a loud weld sound, something similar could be just the ticket along with your other suggestions.

If we can request meds/ammo we should be able to request welding as well!

(would solve a lot of "problems" with marines requiring more team play without armory healing armor)

I seem to recall a bindable hotkey in NS1 for "Heal/Weld Me" requests to fellow players on the ground.

Sounds like people are having problems getting the welding to connect to the players? Hm, then yeah all of those sound awesome.

    The above

    Also
    - Visual indication of some sort of who has a welder and who does not so players know who to beg.

That's not on the scoreboard yet? Or are you referring to an icon over the player's heads when you're low?

Does it really need to be a new button or functionality? We already have the call for medpacks, so why not use that one to indicate to nearby teammates that you need welding? Ideally not bothering the comm if you're already at full health.

Yea i mean a small icon or something so you don't need to be spamming the voice chat with queries or guessing :).

it would be so much easier if we had a visual indication of someones armor level without having to mouse over them every time

    something like this

another thing for welding is that the spread arc is very very narrow, as it is right now you gotta focus dead center on players and makes it very hard to actualy weld someone

I think that they'll add that as part of polishing the game for release; in NS1 you could see healthbars around the feet of all marines near you when holding the welder out.

I'd like to be able to weld my self up to 50% of my total armor and the other 50% must be done by a team mate for those hard to reach places.

Was self-heal a mod in NS1, or just part of the standard game? I don't see why you shouldn't be able to heal yourself completely, possibly taking longer than a normal weld like the Gorge does. That way you're able to repair yourself and its not too powerful.

It was a mod. You had to look straight down at the ground to weld yourself, but it made you vulnerable while you did it since you can't see and the welding sound ensures you can't hear much either.

Slower than normal and only to 50% would be okay for normal marines, would have to wait for the exo if it would be to powerful on him.

50% could be explained by the fact that you cant reach all parts of your body while wearing a body suit.
slower could be explained that that it takes more time since you have in theory to crouch to reach your feet, etc.
