make lerk crosshair lower / diagonal

<div class="IPBDescription">so its easier to do fly-by's</div>I think the lerk would be made much better if the cross hair was lower on the screen so that the spikes would shoot out diagonally towards the floor.

I can picture the lerk being able to fly into a room, while flying above marine height and use the spikes to attack them while going towards them, and then release the spores after you fly past them.

It would make things much more fun, as right now you basically have to run into whatever you are trying to spike - or use spikes from a stand still.

You can fly sideways, I think...? Flying in a straight line towards a marine seems excessively suicidal.

Sidestep +1, just press A or D. You can also hold the spacebar to "hover" at a certain height with minimal drop in altitude as you shoot marines up.

I like this idea. The angle should straighten out though when on the ground.

You really don't want to be flying directly at (or toward a point directly over) a marine - it lets them hit you easier. You really SHOULD be side stepping back and forth, making yourself into a target the moves up/down as well as left/right. Standing still or flying strait at a marine is a great way to get shot.

If only there was some way to allow the player to move the crosshair independently of his model, but that is not feasible with only one source of input (mouse). At least I do not see how to make it feasible.

You used to be able to hold glide and you could aim up and down independently.

NOTE: You still can... but I pretty much never use it. So, I have no idea why this thread was even made....

the actual reason i thought of this idea is that side step is really slow, anyone that has a mouse can easily aim and follow the lerk's side step. (hovering is a terrible idea, as is staying still as a lerk for any amount of time).

but flying forward is very fast (and whats not to say you aren't flying at them from behind), either way at the speed the lerk flys you would have spiked the marine, and would be flying away before they get a real chance to react

also - you aren't flying into the marine your are flying overhead

This could also work for bite - you could fly past and take a bite out of a marine :)

agreed - the crosshair should go back to the middle if you are on the ground/perched or even still.

I'm sorry for not specifying, I'm talking about side step flying - not on the ground. And I agree, staying still isn't good during combat -> and your idea of flying a strait line (even if to a point above the marine's head) is still a form of "standing still" as the amount you move on a marine's screen is minimal.

This is really just a matter of learning to play the class, flying while attacking is part of what makes the lerk fun to play (and a little hard).

i still think even side flying is much too slow, you wanna get in and get out as a lerk.

maybe i'm just during it wrong :)

Either way, I think the more ways to play the better! :) especially for something like this which imagine would be easy to implement

I would love if there were a better feel to air based combat, unfortunately without a jetpack style movement system the lerk can't effectively aim and shoot at the same time.

A way to achieve the best of both worlds would be to let spacebar be used to fly jetpack style for a lerk, but shift allow for lerk style rapid forward movement.
