Timeout when connecting to a game server

I can create a lan game, and the game runs just fine. When I try to connect to a game server the screen stays on authenticating until I get a timeout message. Anyone know whats up?

    You need to open the ports on your router for Steam Server or your server can't connect to steam so it can not auth it. There is a bug that LAN games are also open for everyone, so make sure you have a PW on it.
