<div class="IPBDescription">Calling all livestreamers!</div>Hi guys,
I have decided to put a small part of my current project live for people to use/see. Partly as I believe you will enjoy it and partly so that I can test its use and get it setup correctly.
I have created a database for holding livestream information. It then checks every 5mins if each stream is active or not. Another script checks every minute and updates the details of active streams. The webpage (below) lists all streams that are currently active in a table and gives you a 'Watch Now' link which will take you to another page and embed the video/chatbox. I hope this will be a convenient way for the community to find/watch live NS2 streams and help streamers get noticed.
You can view the progress here: <a href="http://www.duplexgaming.co.uk/livestreams/" target="_blank">http://www.duplexgaming.co.uk/livestreams/</a>
Currently it only supports twitch.tv and justin.tv streams, but I will have own3d.tv working soon. There is now a form for users logged into duplexgaming, allowing you to add a stream by simply pasting the URL into the form.
If you use a streaming service not mentioned, let me know and I will add further services as time passes.
If you visit the page and it looks like all hell has broken loose or parts are not functioning properly, give me a kick here in this thread or on steam.
<b>Notes:</b>
I would encourage you to speak up if you think the service can be improved or expanded in any way.
If you find a bug please let me know here. I will fix it asap.
You are helping to test and polish one small function of something much bigger and more exciting coming soon(ish).
<b>Known Issues:</b>
own3d.tv streams not fully supported (coming soon).
current viewer / max viewer stats on the embedded video page do not update after pageload.

The devs should probably add something like this + community news to the game really, it seems to be the way SC/LoL/Dota etc are moving.

Thank you Jow, I hope so too. Just need a healthly list of streamers.
I think we will find that NS2 turns out to have a very nice community hub. ;)
*edit* how do you nominate people for s5?
I know of:
www.twitch.tv/naturalselection2 - (of course lol)
www.twitch.tv/rwryne - streams pretty often with one of the highest qualities in the community yet, ns2 comp/gather casts
www.twitch.tv/huze1 - sometimes stuff about insight, more like a lua coder stream
www.twitch.tv/NSIIRemedy - mapper of ns2_eclipse, streams.... mapping! :p
www.twitch.tv/XeiZ - best streamer on twitch! just kidding, i stream ns2 from time to time, will start more streaming when my fps is above 30 lategame, would say second best quality i know of
I know there are some more streams that streamed ns2 sometimes in the past but only listed the ones that stream more often (except me lol but i only stream gw2 and ns2 anyway)
I have added those streams, thank you XeiZ. I am looking forward to seeing some live mapping action from Remedy!
I have been considering a category system and allowing any streams to be added. That way people can submit and watch other streams they might be interest in too, it would just default display NS2 streams.
There may be some erratic behavior tonight as I continue with adding functionality:
Complete the support for own3d.tv streams
Add in a form for the community to add streams
Add in a table for browsing offline streams
Re-do the layout of the embedded videos page.
It would be great if some of the NS2 streamers could try streaming and let me know if the website accurately picks up their stream. Just remember that the active check is processed every 5mins.
I have discovered an issue where some videos show an error message saying they cannot be embedded. However, this does not seem to have any correlation between whether or not <embed_enabled></embed_enabled> is set to True or False in the .xml file for each stream. More investigation required, unless someone else can shed some light on it?
Thank you XeiZ, exactly the type of feedback I am after. I believe I have fixed it, you should be able to popout the chatbox now!
yes NS2HD jumping jax!!!!!! :D
** Update: It was nothing to do with duplexgaming, another site which had been hosted on the server as a favour was going crazy, ive disabled it and everything should be fine now.
This is a good idea and in the works. I would like to show the offline streams too with users selecting an Online/Offline tab above the table to flick between.
I have it mostly worked out, I just want to change how all the streams are displayed to clear it up.
I am currently thinking:
<b>For Online</b>
'Channel Name' -> 'Current Viewers' -> 'Max Viewers' -> 'Stream Duration' -> 'View Link'
<b>For Offline</b>
'Channel Name' -> 'Last Active' -> 'Max Viewers'
Any feedback/suggestions on that?
And speaking of streams, anyone who has a proven track record of streaming NS2 is welcome to make appearances on twitch.tv/naturalselection2. At the moment, Rhyne and InternetsLive have access, and I am always on the look out for more people who want to stream via the official channel.

Thank you. I have around 20 NS2 related streams added now, but am yet to see any of them active personally. I hope this will improve over time and I am sure closer to/after release will see this become a valuable resource!

Added, I look forward to watching some of your streaming!
<ul><li>Discovered that stream_title will not always be available if it is not set (Thanks dggmuffin).</li><li>Completed own3d.tv compatibility.</li><li>Fixed max_viewers updating, it should be reliable now.</li><li>Fixed the lag between marking streams as active/inactive and their details being updated for the first time.</li></ul>

Check out the videos on my twitch feed and let me know if they look good enough quality for the ns2 stream.
Twitch.tv/dggmuffin
I'm running it off my asus gaming laptop and I don't lag at all in game while streaming, but the stream looks a bit choppy at times.
I have manually re-sent the activation (and mirrored it on a test waiting to be activated account). I received the email to the test account, did you receive yours?
It quite frequently goes to spam, but should not be completely blocked from arriving.
I just need to get it to remove the username or liveID from the URL depending on which service it is, that will probably have to wait until tomorrow though.
The max_viewers stat still seems to be incorrectly resetting/dropping.
I discovered I can now obtain channel and stream names from own3d using their rss feed, however as more than 1 person can stream at the same time using each own3d channel I need to consider how I will hold that in the database and how I will display it in the site.
