iOs ns1 port

<div class="IPBDescription">Unit the world through gaming</div>Its a rumor, a whisper, it's been mentioned in pod casts. It won't be until post release. Mac ns2

But while you guys are playing around with unix code. How about a mobile NS a "NS Shift" or a "NS celarity", I said NS one in the title as it is low enough poly.

The next gen mobile devices. And iOs 5.x plus is surly able to handle a game of this caliber. You would blow the competion out of the water. Rage, battle bears royal

My idea involves 33% ns2 content, 50% ns1 content, 17% mobile tech.

Keeping core ns2 concepts, and NS 1 back bone. In Lowish Rez models with high Rez skins.
Micro trans actions for new gorge skins, TF2 hats or perhaps unlocks in game and or in ns2. Plus likes on dig twitter, face book. Advertisement for ns2 the hype.

I don't claim to know how hard it will be. But low polying a model is easy. Making it match the animation curves is harder. And I feel sorry for the poor sap that would have to run a pixilation filter over all the textures.
It's not going to have bloom. Or look super pretty this gen tech. But capitalize on the market. The learning from it could be invaluable.

The revenue from it could push unknown world to we're it needs to be.

Players gaming on the bus. Or at lunch. A android port soon after.

Unite the world through gaming.

Perhaps a full game is out of reach on iOS right now. But a comic of concept art and tsa kharaa back ground would be cool. Perhaps it's a satalite controller for NS2 or a mini map.

Perhaps you have the man power and it can be, all this and more, fuel for NS3 and or other games in the unknow worlds franchise.

    What are you talking about?
  • NEX9NEX9 Join Date: 2005-03-08 Member: 44299Members
Align would you like to play NS on your iPhone, or your android, perhaps you have a tablet or iPad.

This is a suggestion to port NS to mobile devices in a playable state keeping the back bone of the game. Ns2 with ns1 graphics maybe. Integrating mobile tech into the game in some form.

A Mac versions said to be something after release. While they are at it messing around with Mac code. Make a iOS version. And maybe a android version later.

    NS1 is a half-life 1 mod.

Half-life 1 doesn't have mac support, or iOS support.

And they stopped development of ns1 a long time ago.

Thanks for stating the obvious, in your attemp to shoot down a idea, I have been playing for 9 1/2 years now.
    Both NS one, and NS2

In reality it will more likely be the Mac ns2 port in a really low poly state, with semi high Rez textures. Besides it wouldn't be NS one or NS 2 it would be NS shift. Which sounds better than ns2 mobile HD

Tried my best to shoot it down as I couldn't see ns progressing much on phones past a kharaa tower defense clone.

If you want a good iOS game 3d fps to see the capabilitys try N.O.V.A Near orbital vanguard alliance on iOS.
If you play that and don't think and feel a mobile NS would be viable. Bring ya well worded constructive opinion here.

It doesn't seem like it'd work so well without mouse+kb since NS is so fast-paced.

If the devs are going to do something in this direction (way, way down the line of developing):

    NS2 Commander for Ipad:

Only commanding mode is avaible to play.
You command the players playing the full version on the computers.
For them you are an A.I./hivemind-commander (according to the lore).

Yeah I didn't think this through, just trowing it out there.

So you can already play ns2 on your iOS devices, why are you here posting then. Go play it. Stop asking for a pipe dream?

I am here cos it's not optimized. I'd rather give money to UWE for a iOS version of the game than to splash top or every air, or any of the cloud servers out there. Once they make and start on a unix based Mac client for ns2. Tweaking a few numbers dropping the Polly count. And maybe even making it free to play, but with micro translations in there like battle bears, and earn credits through hype, by digging face booking so on. And with a solid community pushing it around. UWE could make some serious money. For not a lot of work. Everyone every were could be playing NS. In some form or another. Reading about it, watching it. Spreading it like a germ.

Then when you see break troughs like eve and dust. Cross platform gaming. Or Xbox smart glass.
You can see a video game future. And getting a jump on it now. Gaining that invaluable knowledge, player base. Momentum. Look at angry birds. They were no body's. But new tech came out they made a tiny crap game. Now just about every smart phone comes with it as default. It's in nearly every known language. It's got merchandise. It's a full blown franchise over night.

    So think about it.

GoldSrc Engine isn't open source atm so it could not be ported on any mobile device.

Not talking as such about porting NS 1 here, it's just going to look like NS 1 limited to by mobile tech. And not be as pretty as NS two. At which point some of the concepts in NS 2 might not work. so would look and play more like NS1.

It's just a suggestion, all the potential of a mobile device.

BBRoyal is free to play, with micro transactions. You can unlock the whole game f2p as long as you thumbs up them on youtube, facebook, dig them, tweet ya wins. It's rather genius acctually. Gives a reason and method and reward system if all the player base is on the hype train to get a new gorge skin. So what if some fat little kid has his dads credit card. Money for UWE who made the game. You don't think they should be paid for their hard work. Look at were the socially acceptable norm is going. No company puts 30 bucks on their game for a mobile game. And most of the ones that do put a stationary price on their game it's like 12 bucks for three lvls.

This way those with skill, who promote the game are rewarded for it. Many would most likely do a few micro transaction as they love the game so the company makes some money.

Micro transaction secure the trial and buy option.

If I said I made a game here it on the app store, and I talked it up on the page dummyed a screen shot of not in game footage used several accounts to give my self a thumbs up. And charged 12 bucks. You think it sound alright. It looks alright but you buy it and it's a piece of crap.

Who's cheating who more, I wouldn't care I got your money. Two more idiots who fall for it and I can buy a new company name do it all over again. The rest would be profit. It's not leaving the apple store. Unless a statuary claim comes my way from ten thousand idiots who want their 12 bucks back

There is a reason for micro transactions and if implimented in a genius manner. Will spread the word of mouth of a game like wild fire.

NS2 has a very small team, they are already very busy on NS2. They don't have time for an iOS or android version.
I might buy an android Zen of Sudoku, but I would not want to play an FPS on my phone. NOVA may have good reviews and decent graphics, but I would much rather play an FPS on PC.
  • NEX9NEX9 Join Date: 2005-03-08 Member: 44299Members
I'd much rather play NS and other first person shoots on my pc as well. But when I am out or about or don't have my pc. I'd much rather play NS on my phone touch or iPad. Than not play it at all and have to play angry birds. Besides. If I meet a single serving friend along the way or some ones interested in the mobile NS fun I am having I can share that fun. Show them what it's about. Get them on the hype train so as soon as they get back to their pc they are foaming at the mouth with anticipation as they download ns2.

A Mac version of NS 2 was said to be something they will look into after release. Which is a few tiny steps away from a iOS version. Small team or not it seams like something max could program in his sleep. GUIs arnt hard and neither is reducing polying counts as Long as you already have a high poly version.

The idea of running resource intensive programs locally on a handheld device with current technology have always seemed a bit ... moronic in my opinion. Streaming games to your iPad or whatever, such as with OnLive, is the only sound way to go. I would much rather see NS2 streamed to a handheld device than see a 10+ year old game (NS1) run locally on some overpriced status symbol. Why pay a lot of money to play games that are really old? It annoys me.

new suggestions add op to allow edit the title. it would be a ns 2 port with low res models low enough that mobile tech can handle it. sure some features might have to go. i dont know the full ramifications of it. maybe lose of bloom and atmopherics yet i see them in N.O.V.A. so i dont know it would play more like ns 1 id imagine. look a bit more like it to keep lag at bay. optamize net code. blah blah. you might lose some of the ns2 features but you could gain some as well. things not quite possible with a pc. mobility for one.

NS2 requires a beastly CPU right now, something mobile devices are lacking. I'm not so certain the performance of NS2 will ever be able to run on current gen mobile devices (phones/Ipads and such)
  • NEX9NEX9 Join Date: 2005-03-08 Member: 44299Members
Kouji I figured you understand that it wouldn't require a lot if they low polyed every. Thing. Reduced the textures. Dropped half the uv maps and all their layers.

Figured you would know that most of that CPU is going to wards plotting were each vertex happens to be in the LOD at any given point. When your dealing with models with a couple thousand verts. Then multiple layers of high Rez textures, we're crazy atmopherics lighting is calculating bouncing off every thing. Plus shadows calculations. The lua is already optimized you can't get much better easier than that.

You would only need to dial back the poly count textures lighting. Enough that it's face paced, arcadie. At which point yes it will look like NS one.

But come next gen or mobile tech. Come new iOS. You add some more verts back in. You don't pixilated the textures as much and up their byte size. And you repatch.

The current mobile tech is pushing dual core 1ghz, 512ram, and quad core graphics.

And the new tegra 3 is putting that to shame.

    Half life 1 system requirements
    Microsoft Windows
Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows NT 4.0, or higher
133 MHz Intel Pentium Processor or better
24 MB of RAM (32 MB recommended)
    SVGA, high color (16-bit)

    I remember playing ns1 on a pentium 2 with a 256mg ram, and a voodoo 2

So in reality it wouldn't look as bad as ns1 but not as good as NS 2, plus high retina displays make 800x600 look like 1280x768.

    From the ns2 community wiki
    What are the system requirements?
The target specifications for Version 1.0 are 1.2 GHz Processor, 256MB RAM, a DirectX 9 level graphics card, Windows Vista/2000/XP, Steam, mouse, keyboard and of course, an internet connection.
