<div class="IPBDescription">didnt see a feedback section, move if in wrong place.</div>Hello.
I've recently started playing NS2. So far, I'm really enjoying the game. and after about 20 hours I've come to give some first impression feedback.
Stuff that i think needs work:
1: Server Browser: this is probably in the pipeline, but have a favorites tab and the ability to queue for better ping servers when their slot is full so i dont have to keep checking while playing on a foreign server. Filters would be real nice too.
2: Very Noob Unfriendly: a tip system would be much appreciated. a bare bone tutorial is whats needed, but a tips system or in-game text based "How To" guide would help alleviate newbie frustration.
3: GUI: needless to say, the interfaces need alot of work. for the aliens the evolution menu is very confusing at first. and the marines imo have to many clicks to buy things... i dont understand why that was added... when from click the gear to get it, to clicking the gear then confirm, seems arbitrary.
4: Camera/Fov: correct me if im wrong, but i didnt see a FoV adjuster in the options (only took a quick glance) but with such high movement speeds and limited vision, i feel most of my kills are based on either luck or ping... (for the aliens mostly, but not totally) this becomes exacerbated when dealing with flying things (jetpacks and lurks) as they zip in and out of my vision. this is most frustrating when playing the aliens as having to be so close to my target makes tracking much harder. This may be a skill issue as many other player have no problems tracking me.
5: Paper Mache: every living thing except the Onoes. this is more of a personal thing, but everything just dies a little to easy for me (2 shots from skulk downs marine early game, same for the OHKO shotguns, but pretty much every thing just goes down really quick. (tbh, i think the game itself is a little too fast paced for most people who arent the more hardcore individuals, which is fine as the game appears to be geared towards the competitive side of the coin)
6: InstaSpawnDeath: it frustrates me to no end watching me about to spawn with a fade currently attacking the spawner, and jsut to die as soon as a spawn...
What i LIKE about NS2:
1: AMBIANCE!: this game does feel like a good horror game a lot of the time. hearing the aliens running through the darkened halls, seeing a skulk leaping and running off and on and around walls on a quest to eat innards. having an Ono round a corner and start charging. new skivvies indeed.
2: Teamwork: i love the many, MANY, mechanics designed round teamwork and support. never been too awfully good at twitch aiming and have tended to lean more support (medic, engineer, scout, etc.)
3: very friendly community: usually dont see competitive games like this have such nice communities... well done. *claps*
4: summer 2012: this always makes me smile.

Comments
2. i agree, but the actual content of the game should be complete first
3. i think the alien one is fine after you understood how it is working (granted, it is not intuitive that you can unselect upgrades to pick different ones). the marine buy menu is brand new in b210 so you can expect some enhancements soon.
4. this goes with with point 1. there is a way to change your fov by editing the code but i don't want to post it here as it might be considered cheating by some people (after all, you see more at once). if you lose track of people it might also be due to low fps, something they plan to improve before release.
5. i guess many people feel like this when getting into a game they have no experience with. unlike many other shooters where the "rules" are quite simple, ns2 probably requires much more game experience for you to stay alive. i guess this can't be helped, but it can also give you a very nice feel of personal improvement. btw: you need 3 bites to kill a marine early on, or 2 bites plus 1 parasite.
6. aliens are pushed back whenever a marine spawns, i guess this effect is rather minor though. if you are annoyed by spawn-killing, feel free to place some mines around the IPs (spawnpoints) and other vital targets as this can be very useful for your team. just don't place them too close to each other or they will cause a change reaction as soon as the first goes off. but at the end of the game, when your base is about to be destroyed, people will either destroy the command center or eventually the IPs. this is not for spawn killing but for ending the game.
